It needs to be replaced by a smaller arena in the same location with better seating. Basketball and gymnastics could temporarily use the BJCC if that would be possible.

What is everyone's thoughts?

Joe Coleman was my buddy's great uncle. I still wish it was called Memorial Coliseum. It's about time to have a brand new arena or reconfigure Coleman

It won't happen. Moving the student section is a more realistic option for helping the atmosphere.

It definitely doesn't need to be a smaller arena. When we're winning, it's full. It would be silly to kill that revenue stream.

The only reason Auburn went to a smaller arena is because they had to. They had curtains to block off half of the old one and still couldn't fill the other half, even when they were good.

Doubt it happens anytime soon. Coleman is fine when we're winning and there are butts in seats.

There is nothing inherently wrong with Coleman, other than the product on the floor. Coleman is one of the largest on campus seating capacities in all of college basketball. This should be strongly emphasized as an asset, not a liability. The seating is unique, where actually there are a greater number of sideline seating than there is baseline seating. This also is a asset, not a liability.
The outside of the building is ugly, but then again, who cares? A lot of arenas on the outside look utilitarian at best.
What could be changed is some improved lighting, and perhaps some type of info board along the sidelines near the top. Not sure how that can be done, though. Maybe just a different scoreboard.
And one final thing is that the student seating needs to be on the bottom rows on the sideline and along the baseline. Move the press row back.

Never understood the all the bashing Coleman gets, which has been a regular thing for as long as I can remember.

Coleman is not as bad as you and others want to make it seem. A few years ago before the renovation..then hell yes. But now while still old and outdated it can go another 5-10 years.

complete opposite for me...like how it looks on the outside but not a fan on the interior.

eta: also look at it this way...if we are last to rebuild..we will have the newest arena on the block

Wish we could, but doesn't seem likely. Maybe if the new basketball HC is pretty good and makes a pretty good push, we can, but I doubt it.

Why in the name of Arceus would you want to make it smaller?

The only thing I don't like about Coleman is how far the seats are away from the court. It would be much more exciting if the fans could be a lot closer to the court. Also, they should have designed better seating in the four corners of the Coliseum by making better use of the unused space. I also think that the student section should be mid court.

It's really not that hard to understand. The lighting, the seating configuration, and the placement of the students is awful. There are literally seats that face other seats. The visuals on TV are terrible. We completely wasted $25 million on renovations.

By the time Ole Miss completes their arena, Coleman will be in the bottom tier of SEC arenas. I really don't understand the staunch defense of it either. It's not the main reason we suck now but it's not helping. If it were football, there's no way we'd allow our program to play in a facility that was behind so many other SEC venues.

In the meantime, we need to move the benches to the other side of the court and put the students on the first few rows of mid court.

I agree. If we could somehow reconfigure the awful seating layout, Coleman would be much better. It would be a much more exciting experience if the seats were closer to the court. I agree on the lighting needing major improvement too.

A multi sport arena would be nice so that the hockey club team didn't have to travel to Pelham to play.

Could also help bring in a semi pro hockey team and maybe an adult league? I would love to play again.
