A multi sport arena would be nice so that the hockey club team didn't have to travel to Pelham to play.

That's the only reason I want a new arena. I don't really have an issue with anything else besides where the student section is. However, that can easily be fixed.

I assume they at least looked into the idea of reconfiguring the seats 10 years ago during the renovation. I'm sure it isn't easy or cheap to round off the corners so fans in those seats are actually facing the court.

The student section placement is a mystery to me. Why we resort to the bare minimum for that is kind of headscrathching and it screams of bureacracy. The thinking is probably that they don't want to move boosters from mid court.

I doubt they will pour anymore $$ into Coleman. But they need new lighting badly - relocate student section - reconfigure corner seating.

The place is like a tomb if you are unfortunate enough to be sitting up in the rafters, just horrible. Take those seats out altogether and add a mezzanine/food court area where you can stand facing the court at a counter top bar and eat/drink while watching the game.

Probably too much $$ to make those kind of changes.

The problem is we chose to invest in 2006. It's the roadblock that prevents us from tearing down what is one of the least attractive venues in the SEC. It's too tall. I've been to many empty games there and it's depressing, dark, and is equivalent to watching a lower level football game at an empty stadium. The problem is, we're in the SEC and we have to have better if we expect to win.

It's depressing because there aren't many people there. Not because of Coleman. As long as you can see where you're walking, I don't get the complaint about it being dark. If I'm at the game, I'm just focused on the court. They just need too add about one more screen for stats.

OK I'll let the administration know in about 10+ years when the idea of replacing Coleman comes up.

You want the truth? Auburn has a new arena. We have a polished, aging facility that doesn't attract and is constantly being ripped. If Auburn starts winning and we stay where we're at, the fans will demand better.

If we stay where we're at, it'll have nothing to do with the arena.

My solution:

City + University build a fancy new arena between the campus and downtown Tuscaloosa for easy access for students and townies.

Coleman Coliseum is handed chiefly to Gymnastics because they're awesome. Rename it Coleman-Patterson Coliseum. WBB and volleyball move back (curtains added for some of their games so the emptiness isn't too bad an issue.)

Foster Auditorium is handed over to the students as a mini-rec center and home for club sporting events, greek life, FCA, rallies, etc.

Where exactly between downtown and campus is there enough land to build a stadium? They aren't tearing down all those historic houses worth $300k+ a piece to move the basketball stadium.

how about that area beside the stadium and behind the strip? Nothing there but cheap apartments and corner stores.

I have been to many games at Coleman over the years when the arena didn't have a good crowd. I have never felt like I was at a football game with an empty stadium. I've been to many Arky State and Memphis Football games in their respective stadiums and that is depressing. Having no more than 5000 people in a stadium that holds more than 30-60k people. Now that is depressing.

Arky State has been getting 20k plus now for their home games the past couple of years though.

Their game against New Mexico state Thanksgiving weekend had 21k and it was easy to get tickets for my cousin and I to go.
