I am ashamed to admit it but I have taken to lurking the Shocker board noted earlier in this thread ...this gave me a chuckle

Oh, and if he leaves us for Alabama? Bama? BAMA? Oh good grief, I'll be devastated. I certainly won't become a Bama fan, that's for sure. I don't like Alabama football any more than I would like Alabama basketball because they're always playing for a national championship. And really, just how much domination does one university need to have? They got Saban, be happy. Leave Marshall to us. We need him more than you do.

In late December of 2006, if someone had thought to check out Kristin Saban's FB page, they would've learned that Saban was coming. She was posting about leaving Miami weeks before the NFL season ended.

At 4.2 mil for 6 years, he'll get a raise and/or a extension if we make the tournament in the first 2-3 years. At a minimum, he'll make 33.6 mil over the next 8 years (not including any incentives). That would be damn hard to turn down. He'll be 60, and could probably hang around til he's 62 to get 10 years in the state system.

If Anthony Grant's tenure proved anything, it proved that we'll give a coach time. Grant made 1 NCAA in 6 years. If he had just made one more, he'd probably be our coach right now.

Marshall can come to Alabama, have moderate success, and pretty be assured that he'll have 10 years with us. During that time, he'd make Top 5 money. Yeah, he wouldn't be invited to coach the US National Team but that's still a pretty attractive life. If he goes to somewhere like UNC or Duke, he won't be given a long leash. They'd have no problem kicking him to the curb after 3-4 seasons. That's if he actually gets a job like that. Its not a slam dunk that he be hired by a blue blood.

This. Hell, David Hobbs got seven miserable years before we ran him.

It was stuff like "Going to miss my Miami friends" and "Looks like I'll be moving soon." She didn't flat out say "My dad is going to coach at Alabama" but it was very obvious what she meant.

Seems crazy now but back then, nobody looked at Facebook as a resource. Whatever you posted was meant for your close friends, not the world. Yet if someone had thought to look up her page, they would've scooped the rest of the country. It also proves that stuff was happening behind the scenes and the whole "Mal had to visit with Ms. Terry" story wasn't entirely accurate.

I assume everyone has noticed that Chief Running Bear said "Marshall has accepted the job and he's going to make it official on the Thunder Box Show on Sirus XM170 at 8AM." He also said Hillary Clinton would be calling in about her Email scandal.

I'm starting to feel like time is working against us. OK, BB met him, pitched the job, wined and dined him, etc. Now he gives him some time to think about it, discuss it with the family, tell the team, all that jazz. Sometime in the next 24 hours, the pendulum starts to swing from the odds are heavily in our favor toward he and/or his family really don't want to take this and are looking for reasons to stay. I have read somewhere his daughter is in the 9th grade. Obviously she doesn't want to leave her friends and start high school in a strange new place. I don't like the way things are going now.

Tomorrow is April Fools Day. I imagine there will be a lot of "Gregg Marshall accepts job at UA" type of posts if this continues through tomorrow.

Ha. Every move she makes...

No, I remember someone linking it at the time. Was kind of shocked at both the fact that she said that and the fact that everyone seem gloss over it. To me, it proves the rumor that we were in talks with Saban/Sexton long before Mal went to Miami.

I look at it this way, he hasn't said no. Until that happens or we get an indication that it will, then you have to like our odds. The way everything has played out indicates that Alabama had good reason to wait for Marshall and make him the top priority in the search. We wouldn't do that if his side hadn't given us a good sign beyond "He'll listen." That said, I won't be feeling warm and fuzzy if we're sitting at this same spot on Thursday. Most of us assumed that things would be wrapped up by now and it was a "I'll come when the season is over" type of deal. Surely they knew this offer was coming for some time and had time to really consider a potential move to Alabama...so I hope this silence is more about them getting their ducks in a row instead of deliberating about how they don't want to leave Wichita for Tuscaloosa. The longer this goes, the more hesitant they appear.

If I have a concern about anything right now, its the possibility of them visiting and then turning us down. What a traiwreck that would be. We'd look like a bunch of idiots.

Clickbait. It'd be all over the interwebs right now if that were happening.

Seriously though. People are so starved for news that the "inside information" isn't even in the form of a declarative statement any more.

Sources: Alabama expresses interest in Gophers coach Richard Pitino

quote:

The University of Alabama has expressed interest in Minnesota basketball coach Richard Pitino, sources with knowledge of the situation told the Star Tribune.

Crimson Tide athletic director Bill Battle fired former coach Anthony Grant two weeks ago, after six years with the program. According to multiple reports, Alabama is currently heavily pursuing Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall as its first choice.

The 32-year-old Pitino has been at Minnesota for two seasons, directing the Gophers to an NIT championship in his inaugural year before falling short of both the NCAA and NIT tournaments this year.
