Pat Forde is determined.

There may be "interest" but I think it's well down the priority list of Bama's interests.

Forde hates Alabama, it's pretty simple. If Ivan Maisel wrote it, I'd be a little worried.

This is also from Cecil:

Re: The Minneapolis report that Richard Pitino had been "contacted" by Alabama.

Pitino would not be among UA's top choices.

He went 18-15 this year. Battle knows better (I hope)

Based on fan reaction, if Richard Pitino was a test balloon being floated over Tuscaloosa, I'd say it never really really got airborne.

Pitino got our fans riled quick.

Makes sense to me:

I think Pitino could end up being a very good coach, but right now we dont need an experimental coach.

Hard to believe that we pass on all the semi decent coaches and wait over two weeks on a maybe...something odd going on here

This. CM USED to be a good basketball coach. I love him to death and thank him for his contribution to Bama hoops. But need I remind everyone, he also recommended Grant and stood behind him to the bitter end, saying he should be given another year as recently as two weeks ago. ENOUGH!! GTFO of the room and let us conduct a search without his out of touch meddling. Hire a search firm if necessary. But don't you think we have enough alums with some basketball sense to make some recommendations? TR Dunn, Robert Horry, Jim Farmer, Gottfried, Wimp Sanderson, and on and on. Jesus, you'd think CM Newton was James Naismith and Red Auerbach and Adolph Rupp all rolled into one.

Yeah, the Pitino stuff is a CM Newton special. Someone didn't just pull this out of thin air.

It's either a courtesy to Rick for helping us in the search or (God Forbid) our Plan B.

Look, Forde is a Louisville homer. He's just trying to do Daddy Pitino a favor to get in his good graces. Nothing more.

I still think Pitino would be way down the list of people contacted if Marshall says "no".

Surely, CM Newton doesn't have enough sway to override practically everyone else.

He doesn't. CM has been helping out. He's one of the few people associated with UA who have legit basketball contacts. CM reached out to Rick early on to help with our search. I'm pretty confident this was a scratch my back, scratch your's deal.

Richard Pitino being Plan B is pure speculation on my part. No merit to it IMO. If anything, it was, as stated above, a trial balloon in case the worst happens with Marshall. Our options are thin if we don't land him.

I hope he didn't torpedo the deal. The Wichita press is running with the story. Report: Alabama now eyeing others besides Gregg Marshall for coaching vacancy
