Which ones are missing? Which don't belong?
LINK
25 "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down," The Band
24 "Tennessee," Arrested Development
23 "Jackson," Johnny Cash and June Carter
22 "Mississippi Girl," Faith Hill
21 "Three Great Alabama Icons," Drive By Truckers
20 "All My Exes Live in Texas," George Strait
19 "Georgia," Ludacris and Field Mob
18 "Southern Nights," Glen Campbell
17 "Guitar Man," Jerry Reed
16 "Oh My Sweet Carolina," Ryan Adams
15 "Alabama Pines," Jason Isbell
14 "Southern Comfort Zone," Brad Paisley
13 "Back Down South," Kings of Leon
12 "Wish I was in New Orleans," Tom Waits
11 "Sweet Virginia," The Rolling Stones
10 "Dixie Chicken," Little Feat
09 "Ramblin Man," Allman Brothers Band
08 "Sweet Home Alabama," Lynyrd Skynyrd
07 "Dixieland Delight," Alabama
06 "Midnight Train to Georgia," Gladys Knight and the Pips
05 "Mississippi," Bob Dylan
04 "Southern State of Mind," Darius Rucker
03 "Down South," Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
02 "Georgia On My Mind," Ray Charles
01 "Carolina in My Mind," James Taylor
I'd say these belong on there:
- "Chicken Fried," Zac Brown Band
- Eastbound and Down," Jerry Reed
- "Honeysuckle Blue," Drivin N' Cryin
- "Georgia," Cee Lo Green
- Switch "Ramblin Man" for "Statesboro Blues"
- "Wagon Wheel," Old Crow Medicine Show
I'd get rid of:
- Brad Pasiley
- Darius Rucker
- Ludacris and Field Mob
And I'd move "Georgia On My Mind" to #1 and bump James Taylor down to like #5.

No one has ever made Rolling Stone's panties wet more than Neil Young. I can't believe Southern Man didn't make the cut. Especially since it inspired Sweet Home Alabama.

Darius Rucker
Some pretty damn good songs though overall. The Band should be higher
Also, Alabama Pines is below fricking Brad Paisley

No Doc Watson Southbound = shitty list
But that's what I'd expect from Rolling Stone.

Southern Comfort by Shooter Jennings needs to be on that list.

This Yankee list sucks so much. How does Summertime not make the list
"Summertime,
And the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin'
And the cotton is high
Oh, Your daddy's rich
And your mamma's good lookin'
So hush little baby
Don't you cry
One of these mornings
You're going to rise up singing
Then you'll spread your wings
And you'll take to the sky
But until that morning
There's a'nothing can harm you
With your daddy and mammy standing by
Summertime,
And the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin'
And the cotton is high
Your daddy's rich
And your mamma's good lookin'
So hush little baby
Don't you cry"

Now I know why the Rolling Stones is busy writing about Kentucky destroying college basketball. Because they've obviously given up on the music end of things.

Lots of Georgia on there. And for good reason. The band Georgia Satellites got it right: historically and culturally speaking Georgia is kind of the sun and most of the rest of the southern states are its followers.
But what the hell no "The Night The Lights Went Out in Georgia"?
Sidenote (and useless trivia): "Midnight Train to Georgia" was written as "Midnight Plane to Houston". Someone at the record company had the sense to change the words, pretty much at the last minute. The difference is obviously ginormous.

This reminds me of Jefferson's thread on ODR of songs about GA. We should bring that one back. It was several pages long.

Tennessee referenced in 8 songs. Not too shabby

I love DBT but I wouldn't put this on the list.

And why the frick not? That song is more of a historical lecture, but it's kn the history and dynamics of the greatest state in the south.
If anything it should be higher
