John Chavis - linebackers
Terry Price - defensive ends
Mark Hagen - defensive tackles

Have we talked about this and I missed it. Seems like pretty big news to me.

I suppose we have to draw our own conclusions about this change. One would be Chavis feels the front four ought to be solid, so he can delegate control of that unit. But he thinks the linebackers need to be coached up the most, so will handle that, himself. If so, I can understand why he would feel that way.

I wonder if this means he has confidence in the secondary? I worry about that unit.

My impression is that Chavis does a lot less signaling from the sideline than Snyder did, so the LBs will need to be taught how to use that autonomy.

Chief only had Brick & Raymond under him at LSU. Here he has 3 coaches. He's been a LB coach since 1989. I guess he didn't want to give it up.

Hagen has also coached DT for close to 12 years of his career, seems like a good move for him.

Sort of how everyone was talking up Mastro last year as the QB of the defense, Chavis needs his Mike to lead out there. Go read the tiger rant about Welter to see the lsu fans crying about him on the field over more talented guys. Their given excuse was Chief didn't trust anyone but Welter with the defense.

Isn't he usually up in the booth?

I could've sworn I've seen pictures of him on the sideline, but Google says you're right.

Well, 100% less is definitely "a lot less"

hmmm...I guess this was given to me. As someone noted, Hagen has coached DTs for a really long time (longer than he coached LBs) and Chavis has always coached LBs. I assumed this shift I guess. Also, Price coached DEs only most of his time for Tuberville.

Why wasn't Brick hired and Hagen let go? Seemed like an obvious move at the time

Think Brick has been more focused on family than work and that had something to do with it. It's understandable from his perspective but Chavis didn't really push to add him afaik

Maybe Brick isn't as highly thought of as we thought.

Miles didn't keep him around. A&M didn't bring him over.
