My first two thoughts as well. I'm pretty confident in Bowtie's ability to get a top notch AD.

Why do it at the beginning of football season seems selfish.

Me too. If I could have any chancellor to be hiring the next AD, I'd take ours. A&M fans would probably agree

It's the beginning of the new academic year. It lets the new AD start right from the beginning rather than finishing up the 2014-2015 academic year which they mostly weren't a a part of.

I think Loftin will make a great hire.

As far as the timing, who knows? I'm sure this was well planned though. This gives Loftin 7 months to hire someone new and have them in place. They can always come in before Alden officially exits.

It will be interesting to see how our first AD search since joining the SEC will go. Being in the SEC I would think helps us attract more quality candidates. Our last hire 17 years ago we were a bottom dweller in the shitty Big 12.

I honestly think he'll be given consideration but I'm not sure how seriously they'll pursue. What do Ole Miss fans think of him?

He's already ours, we just loaned him out to get you poor fricks a new arena.

If there's nobody better that's interested, we'll take him.

ETA: In all honesty, I don't expect it to be anyone that's worked at Mizzou previously.

You won't find an OM fan who doesn't love the guy. And any OM fan who doesn't like him is an idot, to be honest.

He has been one of the best things to happen to Ole Miss in a long time. We needed new blood...badly. I have friends that work in the AD and they say he is an absolute pleasure to work for. He cleaned out the GOBn swiftly and professionally upon arrival and has totally changed the mindset within our athletic department.

I have always said that one day Mizzou would come calling and here we are. I don't know how strongly he will be considered by Mizzou, but IF he is in serious contention I hope he is swayed to stay so that he can see these massive projects completed.

I sure won't miss his fake pronunciations of 'Missouruh'. But I suppose he did a decent job.

the move out of the office and into a "instructor" position makes it sound like he was told he was stepping down, and given a job to allow his contract to run out.

Well, you can complain about basketball all you want but under Alden MU has a conference hoops tourney trophy,, and zero football trophy's.

I think Alden knew you'd be a bottom dweller soon, albeit in a premier conference.
