re: Mizzou AD Mike Alden stepping down

Alden was good at accepting large donor checks and giving the glad hand/speech like the best insurance sales agent, his staff level hires are a long litany of mixed failure and some success. Sports at Mizzou is not in a bad spot but could certainly be better, and while it may not entirely be his fault, he is in the chair that accepts responsibility. His last basketball hire may turn out to be his best hire, we still don't know.

I've heard such nonsense as "Alden is responsible for getting us into the SEC", this level of stupid from indeed a "lot of retarded fans" is no mark of success. If participation ribbons were conference trophies, Alden would go down as the king of college athletics. He has done an adequate job, but he's not really the 'big picture' guy Mizzou needs at this point in time.

Alden has been "in the chair" during some rough waters and when Mizzou has faced some bad(and unfair) press, while he's been good at talking up the program, his inability to deal with bad press is certainly a mark on his record that is not going away.

I was listening to local sports talk radio last night and Gabe DeArmond from PowerMizzou said he had heard a rumor (and had NO idea if it was true) that Bjork has a clause in his contract with Ole Miss that he can't leave for Mizzou.

I'd say he and Whit Babcock have to be the two front runners, but who knows where Loftin will go.

Alden did a good job. He was able to increase the money flow substantially which was exactly what we needed.

The next guy will have to do even more of that. We really need to continue down the facility improvement path Alden set us on.

Alden accepted checks from walmart billionaires and KC money blocs, he didn't "raise" the money he was the middle man in the transfer. If anything Loftin will want more of a firebrand guy who is less political like Alden, someone who isn't afraid to step on some toes to get things done.

well he raised the money for the new Arena, of course the cost was hiring Snyder so that the Walmart kid would get to be on the court far more than he ever should have been.

Alden is no great success story at all really, of course I wouldn't expect a gulper to see this. What Alden has done is what an average AD would do at Mizzou, he won't be that difficult to replace and or improve on.

that was overplayed by ESPN and of course idiotards on the internet as well. The swimmer girl had all sorts of issues that went beyond what Mizzou could possibly be liable for and Dixon and Washington both got expelled and or charged(in Washingtons case). Yes Alden was at the helm and is culpable as the figure head, but he wasn't covering anything up. Short answer, no not really.
