Walker is seen picking up something that dropped on the ground. Muskogee police say that was the gun he pointed at the officer, and the gun they found in his possession after he was shot.
3 things...
1) He does drop something and pick it up.
2) He never points it just turns and runs.
3) The next officer on the scene is clearly seen grabbing the gun from his waist and then tossing it in the grass.
Did i miss anything? Anyone want to make an argument that it was the gun as the article quotes?
Im not going to argue if the cop should have shot him or not. Its pretty tough since im not in his shoes. But the quotes from the article seem misleading which does concern me. I did however, like the officers tone as he was telling him to relax. That seemed like good training and technique.
Edit:

I also need to clear up information that I initially put out at the scene. Information I initially received at the scene was that as the suspect ran from the officer, the gun he was carrying fell from his person and he reached to pick it up. The latest information I have is that an item fell from the suspect's person and he reached to pick up the item and turned toward the officer. A loaded semi-automatic pistol was recovered in close proximity to the suspect.
Well i guess there was an update to that, for whatever its worth.

I'm trying to figure out if he dropped the gun twice, looks like he tries to pick it up again at 1:51.
Around 1:49 it looks like he tries to pick it up with his left hand, he either drops it or he fails to pick it up, then reaches for it with his right arm.
Or did he lose his balance and use his left arm to stop himself from falling?
He puts his left arm out, but I don't know if he's reaching or trying not to fall.

I don't see how he, while running, pointed the gun at the cop, then dropped it, and put it back in his waist in a matter of seconds. Video is rather inconclusive.

he ran
dropped the gun
failed at first attempt to pick it up (fumbled around for it)
got it (this is where he is facing the officer in a 3 point stance w/pistol in hand
turned to run
I think puts it in waistband
officer fires 5 times looking like the first 3 missed and 2 found their mark.
good shoot IMO. With the video showing that I'm not going to say anything was done wrong.

Something I found curious is the use of tactical gloves by the officer. The escalation of force was a little rapid but in the end it appears the man was carrying a weapon. What he intended to do with that weapon is anybody's guess.

Why curious? (Although I agree, it was the first thing I noticed when I started watching the video as well.)
It's cold in Illinois this time of year, although those tight thin gloves are not going to offer much protection. He was also the only one wearing them at the end of the video when other officers were reporting to the scene.
I think the other reason they wear them a lot of times these days, and I saw some locals wearing them even this past summer at a traffic stop ... is because if they do a pat-down they want to avoid getting poked with needles and sharp pointy objects and such.

The guy was probably just trying to get enough distance to chuck the gun away.
The officer cannot possibly know that. Obviously the gun was illegal or the guy was wanted for something. Honest concealed handgun carriers say "I have a gun in my waste". And then keep their hands up. I need to create an instructional video "how not to do stupid things that get you shot". Similar to this How not to get your arse kicked by the police
Can't fix stupid.

Wow, body cams work. Suspect shouldn't have run. Suspect shouldn't have turned towards the officer. Suspect shouldn't have tried to use his gun.

It was Muskogee Oklahoma, not far from Fayetteville.

For those that watched the entire 16 minute video ... the last four minutes include voice-overs of the 911 calls that brought the LEO out there in the first place.
The call was from the church preacher and he clearly stated the man outside had a gun and had threatened to kill the girl inside the church ... and that she had been shown the gun the day before.
That call, that one right there, that all but sealed the deal.
But also, if you'll notice the guy standing in the street with the LEOs shortly after the shooting, he was telling the LEOs that the dead man had tried to get him to take the pistol when they saw the LEO coming but he, and others, refused.

I saw that movie about the Muskogee Airmen, it's cold there too.

Had not listened all the way through. Did the perp die?

Call President Obama and tell him he just lost another son.

Nice to see how his sagging pants hindered his getaway, and helped the cop get a cleaner shot.

1. Totally justified shooting.
2. Feel bad for the police officer, can tell he regretted it. Even in a justified shooting, its got to be tough knowing you just took another person's life.
