After watching NFL OT, College OT may be the one thing the NCAA gets right

Seriously.

I know it's certainly not perfect. You could have a 7 OT matchup that runs past midnight. You could probably move teams further out to start.

But it's sure as shite better than a coin toss essentially deciding things and sudden death.

The team that wins the coin toss usually loses.

The NFL should have at least one possession per team.

I believe it, but that's the kind of statement that it helps to provide a link.

While the CFB OT is more exciting, I'm really not horribly upset with the sudden-death OT.

Don't want the game to end right away? Play some D or make a ST stop, etc.

The one possession idea, though, isn't bad.

I also like the one foot in bounds=catch rule that college uses and knee down without being touched=down.

Both of those make the game simpler IMO.

I looked around for a link, I may have been looking at a different time frame. What I found so far is the team that wins the coin toss wins 52% of the time from 1974 to 2003. I'll look around for more sources and see if I was thinking of a different time frame or just remembered wrong.

How does a coin toss decide it? For that to be the case the other team has to drive the length of the field and score a TD. People act like that's just automatic.

In NFL OT (since the sudden death rules change) they win over half of the time.

I prefer the NFL on both of these.

I do like the clock stopping while they move the chains in late situations though.

They should start college OT at the 40 but other than that I agree

The other team should at least have a chance to do the same.

And I love CFB overtime. Only thing I'd change is maybe have them start on the 50 rather than the 35

This. Matt Hasselback declaring the W after the coin toss in GB was pretty fricking bad and then throws the pick 6.

No the other team should just play good defense and get a short field to kick a winning FG.

Statistically it favors the team that wins the toss.

But two teams play their asses off and it ends up at tie, both teams should have an opportunity to showcase both sides of the ball. If you're an offensive team and the other team wins the coin toss, you're pretty well fricked.

I disagree. Defense is only part of the team.

It's not hard to figure out why the sudden death OT favors the first team to go on offense. Offenses already have significant advantages under the rule book, so they can afford to take more chances when the game is absolutely going to be decided by that possession and the other team will not get the ball back.
