Good for you on offering a cogent counterpoint. If you honestly think STs are as instrumental in deciding games on a regular basis as offense and defense, you should be able to demonstrate that in some logical fashion. Have at it

Do you really need me to link the number of games that have been won on a game winning FG? I'm sure you would attribute that entirely to the offense though, wouldn't you?

Go for it. Then link me to the number of games the ST got the ball into position for the FG. Should be a fun time for all.

Sorry, that wasn't a cogent reply. The problem is, STs are entirely situational, and only play a small percentage of a game's running time unless everyone is returning kick-offs for TDs or getting into FG range before the offense goes 3-and-out. And even that's only half the equation, given the paucity of blocked FGs minimizing the role of defensive STs in those situations.

Personally, I think the college system would be way better off if instead of starting at the 25, each ot possession started with a kickoff. The current system just results in inflated scores and completely removes special teams and the strategy associated with putting together a legitimate long drive. Its barely the same game. And just call it a tie after 2 ot.

I prefer the College OT quite a bit. The tension mounts as the OTs continue. Anyone who has seen a missed FG in OT lose a game can get their special teams fix right there.

College OT is a joke.

So you feel like the best team won the 2002 Arkansas-Tennessee game?

What is it for college fooball. While I like college OT better, rhe advantage of playing defense first has got to be more than 52%.

NFL OTs would be better if both teams had an equal number of possessions in my opinion.

jeez, I'm sure there is something but can't think of a thing the NFL does better than college IMO.

It's really hard to get OT "right" in a sport like football. I do not like the current structure in the NFL nor do I like it in college. I think a better way to do it would be to structure it like college but makes teams start at midfield so they're not in very makable FG range before they even run a play. I also think ties in the regular season in the NFL is dumb as are ties in any sport imo.

Sudden death is stupid in NFL OT. Especially in the playoffs.

They will change it eventually. Historically the team winning the toss wins more often than not and that disparity will get bigger going forward with the rule changes that favor the offense the past several years.

agreed. in an offensive-centric league, it really is dumb.

I can live with it. Obviously I'd have preferred to win but that wasn't in the cards that game. It was still a great game to watch.
