..that ever since Saban started his kinder, gentler approach the defense hasn't been as dominant as the 2008-2012 run? Over the last 2 seasons the Bama defense has allowed:

42 to Ohio St.
44 to Auburn
45 to Oklahoma
34 to Auburn
42 to Texas A&M

FWIW, I believe Saban is the best cfb coach of this generation. But seeing the above and knowing the high standards of the Bama fan base, is there any creeping worry that Saban, now 63, is losing his edge on the defensive side of the ball?

It isn't so much the kinder, gentler approach as personnel. To go from guys like Javi, Menzie, Dre K., Milliner etc. to Eddie Jackson and Sylve is a huge drop off.

Still one of the best defenses in the country every year. Numbers are relative as the game is certainly changing and Saban is having to adapt.

Really have struggled the last two years finding corners who can plan solid man which is pretty important in Saban's scheme. Looking at the roster and I'm pretty optimistic about the next two years on defense.

Eddie Jackson could very well end up being just as good or better than the guys you listed.

Sylve is a bad example.

Do you blame Kirby "not so" Smart for the decline of the once feared bama defense?

He shuts lsu's shitty offense down every year.

Granted that's not saying much.

It's not the head coach, it's always the instantly turned shitty DC. Right?

He could, but at this moment he's not. I'm optimistic he will turn it around, but Milliner's freshman year looked like he was a shutdown corner compared to Eddie Jackson this year. And unfortunately we had to play him even if he wasn't fully recovered from his injury.

How so? Would Sylve unseat any of those previous corners at any point in their career? He could also turn it around, and I am optimistic that he will. But let's not pretend that right now he belongs in the same conversation as the others I listed.

Yeah let's not talk about LSU. We know we've dropped off since 2011. The question in this thread is, has Bama's defense dropped off since 2012?

more importantly how likely is it for a defense to improve from the 2011-2012 teams?

Then gives up 600+ yds to Auburn and 500+ yds to Ohio St. totally embarrassing the conference again (see Oklahoma and Utah). Not to mention letting Bad Bo Wallace carve his defense up like a leftover Thanksgiving turkey.

Then why post something you know is just plain stupid?
I don't get it.

We have looked very soft in the middle. It has to be a schematic adjustment and it will get figured out.

Shutdown and Milliner's freshman season should never be in the same sentence.

And Jackson was coming off of a serious injury.

And Sylve is a bad example because you are comparing all Americans to someone who has been a backup his whole college career.

We have lacked at key positions (at stopping pass heavy offenses) the last 2 seasons. 2012 was the last season we had an elite corner (a position that has almost become a weakness)

Each of the national champion Bama teams under Saban have had at least 1 elite corner

Name any coach in America who can consistently prevent great offenses from scoring a lot of points. The game has changed to the point where it is nearly impossible. The rules have allowed offenses to take over the game.
