Heck of a game he called tonight.

I can't remember one head scratcher to be honest.

Nothing too bad but I still really dislike how easy it is to tell whether we are running or passing

I scratch my head anytime we throw a pitch.

His first 2-3 possessions were tard-worthy. After that he seemed to realize what the strength of our team is.

The QB sneaks on 3rd and shorts were weird given our brand of offense, but they didn't backfire, and I can't complain about a blowout. He did do a masterful job of controlling the clock.

Big Jim was just setting them up on that first series. Did you see the second and third possessions?

I am fairly certain Big Jim has never run to the right, left, up the middle in his entire life...

Why is our second half offense so unproductive

No it wasn't

Our second series was 10 plays and a fg.

He single handedly cost us the Missou and A&M games...not gonna give him credit on a night our D held Texas to 59 yards. Do we ever run screens?

Defense adjust and Chaney is out if ideas by the middle of the 3rd quarter.

I'm serious when I say other offensive coaches have lapped him.

We need to take this chance to upgrade now. Lots of NFL coaches lost jobs yesterday. Also Vigen can be gotten cheap right now. Bohl isn't going to be the Nebraska coach for at least another 5 years. The time to strike is now.

Probably the only downside to our strong finish to the season is that people will ignore the little things that Jim continues to frick up that could be the difference between a 9 win team and a team that makes it to the playoffs.

I was curious of 1st v 2nd half numbers to be sure it wasn't my imagination, and here's how it plays out:

Opp 1st...2nd
Tex 24...7
Mizz 14...0
OM 17...13
LSU 10...7
MSU 10...0
UAB 35...10
UGA 6...26 (the one outlier)
Bama 6...7
A&M 21...7 (and 0 in OT)
UNI 28...24
TT 28...21
nich 56...17
Aub 21...0

what really stands out is how the good (i.e. the SEC) teams were able to adjust and shut down the offense in the second.

in SEC games alone excluding UGA, we scored 98 in the first half but only 34 in the second half.

That includes 3 total shutouts in the second half: Mizz, MSU, and Auburn each held us to nil, all winnable games if the offense performed at all in the second.

In addition to the three shutouts, there were 3 games we were held to only a single a TD in the second: LSU, Bama, A&M. One win and two very close losses (1 pt and OT). Again, two more that could have been wins if we were able to do anything offensively in the second.

OM and UGA are the only SEC teams we scored more than 7 pts against in the second half. The former, largely due to our defense, not our offense.

so, like, that's my major concern. maybe it's depth, but i have to think it has something to do with his play calling.

I agree with CV in the sense that I think SEC DCs are just making adjustments at halftime and he has no change or counterpunch. Our two second half outliers were Georgia (they let up defensively) and Texas Tech (we were ball controlling them to death, which was good).

They're blasting homers because he's still throwing meatballs over the plate because it worked in the first few innings.

Oh dude First half to second half production is night and day.

The scoring by quarter breakdown over the season will make you sick to your stomach. We fade hard and fast after half.
