Going forward, I thought it would be good to take a look at the expected roster for 2015. I'm going to include recruiting rankings for those leaving and those being replaced. When I list someone as an improvement, I am basing that view off of long term potential, not claiming that they will be better from day one.

(2014 vs 2015)
Offense:
QB: Dak Prescott (returns)
RB: Josh Robinson (returns)
RB: Holloway/Shumpert (return)
WR: DeRunnya Wilson (returns)
WR: Robert Johnson 3* - Replaced by Fred Ross 4* (Improvement)
WR: Gabe Myles (returns) - Likely replaced by Donald Gray. (Big Improvement)
OT: Justin Senior (returns)
OG: Ben Beckwith 0* - Replaced by Devon Desper 3* (Eventual Improvement)
C: Dillon Day 2* - Replaced by Jamaal Clayborn 3*(Slight Improvement)
OG: Justin Malone (returns)
OT: Blaine Clausell - Replaced by Martinas Rankin 4* (Big Improvement)
TE: Malcolm Johnson 3* - Replaced by Gus Walley 3* (Same)

Defense:
DE: Preston Smith 2* - Replaced by ?
DT: Kaleb Eulls 4* - Replaced by Nick James 4* (same)
DT: PJ Jones 4* - Replaced by Chris Jones 5* (Big improvement)
DE: Ryan Brown (returns)
LB: Matt Wells - Replaced by Gerri Green (Improvement)
LB: Benardrick McKinney 2* - Replaced by Richie Brown 4*(same)
LB: Beniquez Brown (returns)
CB: Traveze Calhoun (returns)
CB: Will Redmond (returns)
S: Kendrick Market (returns)
S: Jay Hughes - Probably replaced by Peters 5* or JT Gray(Improvement)

Thoughts? I will make changes as some of you point out different ideas. Overall, we really should improve next season, going to be a fun ride.

I think we have some real question marks for next year, but I do see reasons that we could actually be better next year. The offense could be wicked. If the defense can cut down on the big plays, next year's team could be very difficult to beat.

Agree, I'm excited about our offense. I feel like we have the tools to be very powerful on that side of the ball. Key is Dak must remain healthy and if he can't run well we don't need to run him repeatedly down the middle...aka don't repeat the same mistakes we made this year with the offense.

Defense...I just don't see this secondary competing very well. I'm hopeful, however, that a new DC will try a different scheme and allow this group to shine.

I just don't agree. Calhoun and Redmond shite guys down, I think if we can find a solid safety we will be good.

ETA: Those two were saving graces in our secondary. I don't remember either getting beat in 1 on 1 in the second half of the season. I think the change in scheme is going to help a lot.

interesting...I thought they were the weak spots, but maybe its' just because they had no safety help.

You think Jamal Peters would start at Safety as a true freshman? That like be very unDanlike.

I think Dan will play him if he's the best we have. I think it will be him, Gray, McLaurin, or Bryant but all will probably see the field.

We need a playmaker on defense, we haven't had that since Cox left in 2012.

I feel like Jones showed some playmaking ability. The interception he caused at the end of the AU game was huge.

This is some Bundy level homerism.

More of a potential standpoint there. I obviously don't think Clayborn will immediately be better than Day, but by the end of the season I think that's a real possibility.

Richie Brown is not the same as McKinney.

He's really gone way out on some limbs with these projections. Like this one.

LB: Matt Wells - Replaced by Gerri Green (Improvement)

Again, long term, not immediate. Not really on a limb at all, honestly not sure Wells will get drafted. He's too big for safety and too small for OLB. I think it's entirely plausible that Gerri ends up better.

Yeah McKinney is great, Richie is really good too. I think they will have similar careers at state.

Gerri Green will not play the same position as Wells. That will be JT Gray.

Richie Brown being the same is a fricking joke I hope.

Gus Walley being the same is a bigger fricking joke.

Clayborn who was not even the backup center last year being an improvement is an even bigger fricking joke.

Read, try that before responding. Specifically said I don't expect them to immediately be improvements, even though in some cases it may turn out that way.

Why? Because MJ has underperformed for 3 years? We've been expecting him to be amazing since he's got here and he has never been anything other than mediocre.

Dillon Day

We didn't miss a beat when he was out, actually our line played one of it's best games. Can't put my finger on anything he was amazing at other than not sucking.

JT Gray

Is currently at Safety, not LB.

I don't even think you know the point you are trying to argue. This thread is titled 2015 which means immediate. Then you say on down the line they will be better and in one post you are arguing NFL potential.

For the most part I disagree with the majority of the players you have said that will be the same or more improved next football season.

Because we shifted an All American guard over to center to play for him. Which you say Devon Desper will be an improvement over.
