ORLANDO, Fla. - University of Missouri Head Coach Gary Pinkel has tabbed former Mizzou player and coach Barry Odom to become his next defensive coordinator and linebackers coach, as announced today. Odom, 38, will join the team after the first of the year, as he takes over for Dave Steckel, who will leave to be head coach at Missouri State following the conclusion of Mizzou's season. Details of Odom's contract are being finalized, and will be released when available.

Statistically good D this season, but really struggled in their bowl. Will be interesting to watch for sure.

How equipped is Mizzou to go to the 34?

Good hire but coaches jumping ship to go to Missouri State is not a good sign. At all.

Good hire. I definitely think he will be an improvement. Hopefully the transition won't take more than a year.

Understood. But, Missouri State? This points to underlying problems in Columbia.

Who is hiring DC's as head coaches nowadays? Its all about offense. Stec wanted a HC gig, got one. Could he have gone bigger, probably. But problems, really?

I think you are joking but if you aren't, Mizzou plays BYU in Kansas City (arrowhead stadium) in 2015.

Steck didn't jump ship for Missouri State. He is dang near as old as Pinkel, so no way he would get to be the head guy at Missouri. He has made plenty of money, is at the end of his career, and wanted to be a head coach somewhere before he hung up the whistle.

Odom is excellent hire, Mizzou guy and will be ready to take the reigns when Pinkel calls it quits.
