Pretty sure that isn't true, but lets roll with it.

A&M got on probation in '88 primarily because of accusations drummed up by the sip Dallas Morning News Editor against Murray.

So the infractions were false?

You have to remember that back in the '80s it was still very unusual to see a black QB, Murray was the first at A&M and Texas didn't have one for years afterward.

Might I introduce you to one Donnie Little, who was Texas' starting QB in 1978. He's black.

Ah, forgot about Little. I do recall hearing Texas fans calling Murray all kinds of creative racial slurs back in the day though.

The infractions were actually never proven and the charge that they got us on was "lack of institutional control" with lots of smoke but no fire. Was A&M cheating? Almost certainly, EVERYBODY in the SWC cheating like crazy in the '80s and the sips got nailed as well. The point on Murray though was it was a vendetta against him because he took A&M from obscurity to back to back SWC Titles and eventually caused him to skip his Sr season and turn pro even though because of his bum ankle his pro career was a non starter.

Doesn't it seem strange to anyone else that just one week ago Kyler and Daylon had zero interest in Texa$$?

The ones specifically against Murray were. A&M was slushing it up big time, and there was evidence against multiple players, but Murray was by far the highest profile player A&M had during that run and they drummed up a case against him to make the headlines bigger.

There has never been any evidence Murray received improper benefits, but there was plenty of evidence against at least a half dozen other players.

Yeah, Texas has a lot of money. What of it? I'm sure Kevin Murray is hurting SOOOOO much for money right now, right?

Seriously, is this a joke? For real?

Not only did he take improper benefits (as concluded by the NCAA), the NCAA also stated that the should have been ruled ineligible, but was not.

From the NCAA Infractions public report for your 1988 probation:

quote:

7.
During a period beginning on December 22,
1983, and ending on October 19, 1984, a
representative of
the university's athletics interests
arranged for a student
-
athlete to receive
approximately $4,150 for employment at a
warehouse owned by the representative during the
1983 Christmas vacation, 1984 spring break and the
summer of 1984; further, the studen
t
-
athlete
received an advance payment for part of the wages,
and the young man did not work the actual number
of hours for which he was compensated, and finally,
even for those hours he did work, the approximate
$15 hourly wage was excessive for the type o
f work
(cleaning a printing press) he was to perform. In this
regard, the university had a duty to monitor this
work, and this violation should have been detected
and self
-
reported by the university. This young man
should have been declared ineligible for
both
regular
-
season and postseason competition. Instead,
he remained an important member of the team
through the 1986 season

quote:

The investigation was prompted in 1985 after published reports contended that Murray received $3,550 in 1983-84 from Dockery for cleaning printing presses. Two of Dockery's former employees have told N.C.A.A. officials that Murray, who has said he would not return to the Aggies next season for his final year of eligibility, never performed the work for which he was paid, a possible N.C.A.A. violation.

You're an idiot. Joey Mcguire has been one of the most highly regarded high school coaches in the country for years. Do you think any of these other coaches just automatically jumped to the college or NFL ranks? If you really think this is about one recruit you are a moron.

Look, I don't expect you to know the success of Cedar Hill football the last few high school cycles or so, but I'm from the metroplex and Cedar Hill is a power house program that everybody knows. They have won on a consistent basis for a long time. I'm surprised that its taken this long for their coach to make the jump to college. You're acting like hes some slouch, and if you do know about his coaching success and still assuming he isn't qualified to coach at Texas, then you're just arrogant. Just like most aggies I know.

Poor Kyler named after Kyler Field.

His opinion of the human race can't be all that high.
