Some posters are suggesting the only reason Cedar Hill's coach is getting offered a position is because of a possible package deal. A package deal would obviously be a plus, but Joey McGuire is very qualified.

Rush Propst would've been on the Bama staff if only he had one less family

Reminds me of Robert Nkemdiche's father being offered a job at UMMC.

Maybe, but Sumlin has bungled this recruiting class so bad, it's not hard to see why these guys are looking elsewhere.

Saying that he would be getting the job to secure Lodge isn't dissing his coaching skills or claiming he is unqualified at all.

If the guy isn't already on staff recruiting for Texas (he isn't) then it stands to reason that he would be getting the job specifically as a package deal and not b/c Strong really wants him on staff.

That kind of package deal happens all the time so its not like its some horrible thing to say.

I could of course end up being totally wrong but most speculation is that McGuire won't take the job (hell, may have already told Strong he won't take it) because his son has 2 more years to play at Cedar Hill and he wants to coach him. I'd be surprised if he took it.

Even if he loses some of these kids he's done a great job recruiting.

definitely. even if texas picked up the 5 or so disputed recruits, a&m's class will still be like top 15, right?

the big concern, from what i gather, is qb depth if murray doesn't choose a&m.

aggies, is there a back-up plan if murray does flip to texas?

Yeah, you can't really say you bungled the class. I know the legacy thing hurts but sometimes the legacy part is the only pro to going to that school. Although I do think that Texas is a peculiar choice. I was hoping Oregon would win the Murray sweep sakes.

Oh, well, looks like we are getting a senior transfer form FCS EWU that shredded Oregon State and UW in consecutive years. Life isn't too bad.

There's a guy at Blinn that I think UH and another school are after that is our big time backup plan. Depending on the timing we may be able to get someone like Virgil too

I hate Oregon football. Not like I hate USC football. But from solely an aesthetic standpoint (I doubt I am using that correctly), KM was born to quarterback Oregon. I'd like to see little Stanford try to defend against him and the psychedelic ducks.

Maybe JUCO to get a back up. We could have easily had Jarrett Stidham if Murray would have decommitted a month or so back not that I think he ultimately will.

I get it. I would have the ducks play smash mouth if I had my druthers and pick a uni. My emotional tie is too strong for Oregon though to care about aesthetics. That, and the flash is what is bring us substance since Oregon has 8 D1 players with 4 going to non power 5 schools.

He's 6 3 195, led JUCO in passing this year. Blinn is basically a feeder school for A&M as far as regular students go and the campus where athletics are played is like 30 miles away. The thought I think is that he would wait until after signing day to see if we are an option. Allen is our only QB on scholarship as of now so we badly need someone in for 2015

I understand package deals happen like this too often, but I do think Joey McGuiar is a legit candidate for a position at UTx. And will offering him help with landing Lodge? Absolutely, but to infer that Texas is just offering the job to get to Lodge is arrogant. The guy is a very successful coach and take a look at where he's had success, there are some nasty 5a teams in the dallas/ft worth metroplex. Not to mention he just won state.. In Texas.

I am very familiar with Blinn...we've taken some players from there. Arky State loaded up on some of them going into our game. I think we got Zak Clark from there as well. Anyway, I need to see where that PWO is from now.

So, it's pretty much a done deal that he is gone, huh? So weird.

again, if they wanted him that badly he would already be on staff.

The point is that it's probably not that black and white. Sure, they are getting a packaged deal but it's not like he's not up to snuff with is resume either.
