In regards to the top teams nebraska beat, they would get rolled in modern times. I've watched plenty of game film, and while maybe a team was ranked #7 or 9 in 1995, there is simply no comparison to modern top tier teams.

I mean, Nebraska's O line had one guy who was 300+, and a 215 lb fullback. How do they move the ball when they could get pushed around? If Nebraska couldn't run the ball, does Tommy frazier have the arm and the WRs to beat Bama with his arm? Nebraska never had to fall back on that in 95 because of their Oline/run game dominance

Though I will say, as for a legacy and dominance in a period of team (that being the 95 season), 95 Nebraska was the greatest ever. Would they beat the great modern teams of the last 5-10 years? Maybe, maybe not.

No one gives a shite about draft picks in relation to how good a college team is. Heisman Trophy winners regularly bust in the NFL and/or barely get drafted at all (Jason White, Tim Tebow, et al). Players who didn't realize their potential also regularly do well. Using draft picks as a proxy for great teams is so dumb.

This is the same faulty, moronic logic that the 01 Miami blowhards use. They can't back it up with anything besides "well, they had (name a player)"

The real question is, who is the best outta these 3:

1) 01 Miami
2) 95 Nebraska
3) 11 Alabama

I still believe that 95 Nebraska team was the best team EVER. I think 2011 Bama could've taken 01 Miami. Most of the 01 Miami team gets hype for stuff they did in the NFL.

Didn't 2011 Bama lose a game. Not sure why they would be in the conversation.

Auburn barely got by Virginia Tech in the Sugar Bowl, USC absolutely destroyed Oklahoma. USC was just a better team in '04. FWIW, I wanted Auburn to put up a better showing so there would be an argument for AU in '04, but if you actually watched both teams play USC was better

You as a Bama fan of all people after Utah 2008 and Oklahoma 2014 should realize barely beating Va Tech means nothing. The same Va Tech that pundits suggested was playing better than any other team in the country at the end of the season.

You bought the media hype about USC. I understand lots of people did. Those teams played very few quality opponents and often lost to inferior teams. Even several of their top 10 wins in those years were against paper tigers ala Auburn 2003.

What we do know is Auburn was more talented, had played a tougher schedule and had better players at the key positions? History has shown this to be true, but the "eye" test propagated by the media then was the opposite of what history showed.

2004 Auburn vs USCw (Who was more talented?)
The hype machine consistently made USCw out to be a NFL minor league team, but was it more show than substance?

*Contributing Players who played in the NFL from 2004 rosters
Auburn-24
USCw-27

It is one thing to be drafted it is another thing to be good enough to stick around. Hype often gets players drafted, talent allows them to remain in the league.

*Total NFL years Played Combine
Auburn-136 years
USCw-104 years

This is further shown by the amount of bust USC produced from the 2004 squad.
*Total Players Who Did Not Make it out of 3 year NFL Rookie Window
Auburn-5 players
USCw-14 players

*Total NFL Pro Bowls
Auburn-8 Pro Bowls (1 Rookie of the Year)
USCw-9 Pro Bowls

*Total Players Still Active in NFL
(Auburn was an older squad in 2004 having more players drafted earlier 2005-2006 than USCw eventually had more players drafted for the two rosters but Auburn still has more players from those teams in the NFL currently.)
Auburn-11 players
USCw-5 players

*Auburn OL vs USCw DL (O-line consisted of 5 that played D-line consisted of a 9 man rotation)
Auburn-19 years played in the NFL 2 pro bowl appearances and 2 players still active in the NFL
USCw-34 years played in the NFL 2 players still active

*Auburn DL vs USCw OL (O-line consisted of 5 that played D-line consisted of a 7 man rotation)
Auburn-31 years played in the NFL 4 pro bowl appearances and 4 players still active in the NFL
USCw-16 years played in the NFL 4 pro bowl appearance and 1 player still active in the NFL

The media hype was really on display at the speciality positions. QB and Running Back but the NFL showed us Auburn was more talented at all three positions only Reggie Bush is still in the league and Carnell was a better back until injury ended his career.

08 Florida lost a game too. One game doesn't define a team. Been plenty of 1 loss teams to beat the hell out of unbeaten teams

It does when they are being compared to the Nebraska and Miami teams mentioned in this thread.

If Nebraska or Miami played the schedule of 08 UF, they would both have at least one loss.

2011 Alabama would beat 2008 USC by about 30. They might not even score a point.

2011 Alabama offense was nothing special. The best sec bcs champion was the 08 Florida team, they were dominant on both sides of the ball. 2009 Bama, and both Bama and lsu 2011 don't have the offense to keep up with the all time teams like 95 Nebraska, 01 Miami or even 05 Texas. Florida 08 is the only team that can make that argument

Their defense is good enough to keep them in the conversation. 2011 Bama was plenty good enough to score on any of those defenses. Matter of fact, score enough to win

You do realize that USCheat barely beat that same VT team in '04, at home right?! Auburn lead against them from start to finish and didn't need a bullshite PI call to win like USCheat did, at home. I guess you also missed that USCheat barely beat Fresno State, Notre Dame, and a sub 500 UCLA that year as well?

Heisman winners:

2004 USC- 2
2004 Auburn- 0

That 2004 Auburn team was really, really good, but no one got up for big games like Carroll's great USC teams. They sometimes struggled agaisnt ordinary teams (Oregon State), but their A game was 10-14 points better than Auburn's. I'll take Leinart, Bush and White in a big game over Campbell, Brown and Williams every time.

USC beat VT 24-13 in Washington, D.C. Wouldn't exactly call that a home game for USC, considering it's a cross country flight for them and a 3 hour bus ride for VT.

That 2008 Florida team was one of the greatest teams in history. They were absolutely loaded on both lines of scrimmage, skill positions, defensive backs, everywhere.

2008 UF was awesome, but they also lost at home to Ole Miss. The best team ever conversation really has two candidates: 1995 Nebraska and 2001 Miami. 2001 Miami beat ranked teams in consecutive weeks by a combined score of 124-7.

They aren't the GOAT, but they are easily top 5 in my opinion. After Tebow's Promise, they went on a run of destroying teams that has not happened since. It was incredible to watch
