Interesting that the 2nd highest paid coach in the SEC is only 2 games over .500 in conference play. Also interesting that 6 coaches are under .500 in conference play.

A couple of random thoughts:

Other than Saban, Georgia no doubt is getting the most for their money.
Dan Mullen is under .500 in SEC play, but after this year, wonder if Ms State will increase his salary. I saw the other day where his name was linked to Michigan.
There are several schools that recently upped their HC's salaries/extended contracts (bolded below)

These numbers are as of 12/10

Nick Saban — $7.1 million 50-11 (just at Bama)
Kevin Sumlin — $5 million 13-11
Les Miles — $4.3 million 56-24
Hugh Freeze — $4 million 11-13
Steve Spurrier — $4 million 44-36 (just at SC)
Gus Malzahn — $3.8 million 11-5
Butch Jones — $3.6 million 5-11
Mark Stoops — $3.6 million 2-14

Jim McElwain— $3.5 million
Gary Pinkel — $3.4 million 63-50 (16-8 since joining SEC)
Mark Richt — $3.3 million 78-34
Bret Bielema — $3.2 million 2-14
Dan Mullen — $3 million 22-26
Derek Mason — Private 0-8

Didn't realize we were paying Sumlin so much more than the rest of y'all are paying your coaches. I guess what constitutes "a lot of money" is relative. We didn't think that was a lot.

Dang, Florida only paying it's new football coach $3.5 Mil? Billy D makes $3.9 mil. Never thought I'd see the day when Florida paid its head basketball coach more than its head football coach

Consider he's never been a HC for a down of SEC football, don't think this is strange at all.

One of your posters was saying A&M balked at the cost for Mus & TRob because it was too much money.

No that was just TexAgs speculation. We were willing to play ball but were rebuffed by Muschamp so we didn't bother upping the ante. I guess his family had something to do with it. Apparently they are more comfortable staying in the deep South. But hey, what can you do? Congrats on the hire.

And they said we were crazy for paying Saban $4 mil in 2007.

Unless you're responsible for payroll (or the money comes from your coffers/support), why does anyone care what another person earns?

This thread comes up repeatedly, and it reeks of ... insecurity? Collectivism?
I just think it's odd.
Never do I sit around, thinking about how [LSU, Ark, Florida] compensates their employees.

Not your circus, not your monkeys.

We tend to take our wealth for granted sometimes.

Freeze is at $4.3 for next year. Was at $3 before Florida came rolling into to town.

Regardless, most coaches will be receiving raises before too long. That huge boost in revenue from the SEC Network has to go somewhere.

What is the world coming to?

At the old Alligator Alley, which was essentially a big high school gym, UF used to be lucky to draw 2000 fans unless Kentucky was coming to town

Your response reeks of insecurity. This is a sports board where we talk about sports-related topics. There is no agenda here. No way to present numbers in a certain light to boost my argument.

it's relevant for two reasons, it gives you an active comparison of what "you are getting" for your money from the HC position.

and if you are at all concerned that your HC might leave for more $ elsewhere, that's about it though.

example: I've never been too concerned about someone paying Pinkel millions more than he's making NOT to win a conference trophy somewhere else. OTOH, if Michigan is desperate and really wants him, I'm ok with him leaving for more $, we've seen what we'll get with Pinkel, and it's place or show but not win.

Because its not. Here in Texas there is a 6-6 coach that makes more than Summy. The man needs a raise honestly.
