Y Sources: Colorado State coach Jim McElwain emerging as a leading candidate at Florida. LINK

quote:

Colorado State coach Jim McElwain has emerged as a leading candidate for the Florida vacancy, multiple sources told Yahoo Sports Sunday.

Information has been gathered on McElwain by Florida officials since the school announced two weeks ago that Will Muschamp would not return as coach, sources said. It is unclear how many other candidates may be involved. Sources said Mississippi coach Hugh Freeze was among those on Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley's radar, but McElwain's name may be at the top of the list.

Would be a good hire to get the hot coordinator after acquiring actual head coaching experience.

He's a nice man, but the Bama offense was nothing to get excited about under his tutelage. I know Col State has improved tremendously with him at the helm, but does it rate the UF job?

2012 Colorado State 4–8 3–5 T–6th
2013 Colorado State 8–6 5–3 3rd (Mountain) W New Mexico
2014 Colorado State 10–2 6–2 T–2nd (Mountain)

He turned that program around with a quickness relatively quickly, it makes sense for him to be an option..

IF there were only a coaching board with the same story posted an hour ago... that'd be neat

What about Jimbo?

If you can't beat them, join them, has to be what Foley is thinking.

I would not take anything Forde say with a grain of salt when it comes to coaching searches. He was nowhere close with Stoops to UK.

Jimbo?
He doesn't meet Foley's requirements. He wants a man of character.

Between paying off the remaining balance of Muschamp's contract and McElwain's buyout, would UF be fine with paying $13.5M before they issue McElwain's first paycheck?

No, Jimbo has had success.

I wasn't inferring that Jimbo was looking to take a step down in programs.

Florida is going to have to go through one more hiring mistake before they get the right guy. The Vols had the Kiffin/Dooley mulligan's. It may be Muschamp/McElwain for Florida.

Saban assistants are fool's gold, just ask Derek Dooley, Sal Sunseri and many others. Any street bum would look like a coaching genius under Saban.
