Why is Auburn's season worse than last year?

They returned most of their starters. their QB knows more than 10% of the playbook, as opposed to when they played lsu last year. They have two very talented receiving threats and two of the teams they lost to are far worse than what they were last year. Which bus stop did the luck get off at?

- turnovers
- much more pedestrian OL
- worse at RB
- no pass rush
- no improvement at LB or secondary

They haven't played as well as last year, mixed with a brutal road schedule, penalties and Jonathan Mincy equals this season.

You were fine until this one. LB has largely been th only improvement on D

Last year they got lucky as hell and this year the luck ran dry.

Penalties.
The worst penalty yards/game in the conference. 114th in the nation.

This is true. The games they managed to eke out last year are going the other way this year.

So recruiting undisciplined players from other schools is affecting their penalties? No way

Schedule is tougher
Injuries- best defensive player (Carl Lawson) and 2nd best offensive lineman (Alex Kozan) have missed entire season. Dhaquille Williams has also missed the last two or three games
Some guys just aren't as good as they were last year for whatever reason. Sammie Coates and Gabe Wright immediately come to mind. Coates supposedly has had a knee injury that has bothered him for part of the season

Your sarcasm is correct. The transfers don't commit the penalties.

Turnovers and the schedule are the two biggest reasons.
Penalties at critical times is #3

Easy to stay hyped when luck is going your way. When it runs out and you face adversity... oh yeah and then everyone in the world catches on to your gimmicky offense and coach...

Loses to the pros early. (mason and Robinson) Injuries, Kozan, Lawson. Grind of the schedule. (Thanks SEC). We will have played 5 top 20 teams on the road.
