Do you guys like playing so few Power 5 teams in the OOC schedule? It drives me nuts that we play 3 terrible teams in addition to our 1 marquee game every year. I understand not all 4 can be USC, but seeing FAU, Southern Miss and Western Carolina make up almost half of our home schedule is nauseating.

Do you guys dislike the fact that you NEVER see good teams from other programs? This is not a joking thread, I am just curious if it irritates you guys that half of your home schedule is against the likes of UAB, Jackson State, Troy, MTSU, etc every season and you don't get even one interesting OOC games most years.

No, they're free wins. Why not take advantage of the system?

Are you suggesting that traveling to South Alabama is not a brutal game?

Because playing teams like Michigan, FSU, Clemson, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin, Oregon, etc is fun and exciting?

Sure it is when your team is winning and successful. Look at your timeline again and tell me if you notice anything.

Is an extra win over La Tech that gives you a 6-6 season and a birth in the Liberty Bowl against Rice really better than playing UCLA at home in which you might lose and go 5-7 but you might win and go 6-6 and it would be a fun chance to play a huge name you never seen?

I dunno.

In fairness, we played Georgia Tech in '09 as well. Playing an ACC Champion Georgia Tech instead of Georgia State cost us a bowl game in '09.

I personally don't like it, but I don't make the decision. It looks like it is going to get better down the road with the K-State, NC State and Arizona contracts. B1G team in '16 and '17 hasn't been announced yet.

But is it better to go 6-6 (2-6 SEC) with four cupcake wins instead of 5-7 with a loss to a Power 5. In the current system where 6 games gets a bowl game. Yes, definitely.

But you are talking to someone who would like to have about 12 bowl games max and make going to a bowl game a special season again.

Your schedule is wrong, because we played GT at home while Mullen was there in addition to playing @GT. Who knows what else is wrong.

I know of at least 3 out of the first 4 years that Mullen was at State we had THE hardest schedule in the country that year. Knowing that, and seeing that we may or may not have played zero P5 OOC games during those years, I really couldn't give less of a frick.

All the fricking pussies outside of the SEC that think we should play better OOC games can come play in the SEC for a few years and I'll bet they change their tune.

There is no sense in scheduling elite programs when you team is only winning 6 games every year just to get murdered on national television. In fact, scheduling those games when you are already in a hole hurts your program.

I guess you can't read comments in the other threads you have asked this question in.

Not gonna lie, it gets us into bowl games and helps build the program.

Also, we play at home vs GT in 2009 as well.

This thread has never been done before.

But this year State has played and beaten 3 top 10 teams even with a soft schedule.

The new rule change in 2016 with require us to beef up our schedule so the point is moot.

Is that honestly a question? Also, if we're 5-7 theres no way we'd beat a UCLA type program unless they are a dumpster fire too.

That is completely ridiculous. I know I probably wasn't supposed to laugh, but I did. That's not even a question.

I think so, but I admit my perspective isn't exactly the same.

Yeah but why not make it as easy as possible to make to the SEC championship game? Look how this season is panning out? LSU played Wisconsin and look where they are? We played no one and look where we are? Why make it more difficult on yourself if its not necessary to make it to the playoff?

So you would rather schedule 4 Sun Belt teams and beat Vandy and Kentucky and go play a CUSA team in a December 27th bowl than play a name OOC school there is a chance you might lose to?

I mean I'm not saying you have to play FSU or Oregon every year, I meant even Rutgers/Cal/Wake/Maryland/Purdue/etc.

Again, my perspective is different, but I was just curious.
