Yeah but why not make it as easy as possible to make to the SEC championship game? Look how this season is panning out? LSU played Wisconsin and look where they are? We played no one and look where we are? Why make it more difficult on yourself if its not necessary to make it to the playoff?
How does playing Wisconsin instead of MTSU week 1 negatively effect a team's odds of winning the SEC?

This whole thread is pointless and discussing the past. The future holds games against top 25 teams. I'm confused why you are now discussing this.

Not in the next 3 years it doesn't.
I was just wondering the average State fan's perspective on past and near future schedules. Clearly you guys are fine with it. That's fine I was just curious.

we did play GA Tech in 2009.
I don't mind this current format that Scott Stricklin has established (2010). The current format is have 3 winnable home games and an away game that can bring fans and the team can travel by bus....en route to saving traveling expenses at that time. i.e. at Memphis, at La TECH, at UAB, at Troy, at USA, at Mid Tenn, at So. Miss....
Now since the SEC Network deal was finalized last year (more revenue for the school) and a playoff system was established we now see KState- NC State - Arizona in future schedulings.

So you would rather schedule 4 Sun Belt teams and beat Vandy and Kentucky and go play a CUSA team in a December 27th bowl
Yes.

than play a name OOC school there is a chance you might lose to?
An OOC school we "MIGHT" lose to? Do you remember watching the State teams that Croom fielded?
Dude, I know you're just trying to take a stab at us, but turn this question around for a little bit:
Since you're just a fan and have absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Alabama has fielded an unbelievable football program for the better part of a century, think about how spoiled you are. Then think about what we went through watching Croom parade a "football team" out there for over 6 years. You tell me what your answer to this question would be if the roles were reversed.

Of course we are. It's free wins, it builds a dead program up to being #1 in the country. You have to beat the shitty teams first and get the illusion of being a successful 8 win team. Sell that to recruits, they buy it and you get marginally better every year until you recruit plays that match your system and you start winning high profile games like this year. Mullen and Stricklin are masterminds when it comes to Lazarus like revivals of our program.

No, it does not bother us. At all.
We play 6 traditional top 30 programs every single year. 4 traditional top 15. Sometimes more depending on the east matchups. Even with a loss to Bama, we would STILL arguably have the best overall resume in the country. Why do we want to make that more difficult on ourselves? What did playing Oklahoma St game 1 last year actually accomplish for us? I mean, outside of losing 3 starters for the season to injuries that don't happen when you start with a layup...
We went YEARS playing marquee noncon games -- with jack shite to show for it. You missed Ga Tech in 09 by the way. Why would we want to change an approach that's working great for us right now?

Seriously, this was not a dig thread. It was a legitimate question.
In case you forgot we were a joke for the better part of 10 years, including all 4 years of my years at Alabama. I still got really excited when we played UCLA in 2000 and 2001 (lost both) and Oklahoma in 2003 and 2004 (lost both). Was excited when we started scheduling tough again when Saban showed up (and we still weren't good) with FSU in 2007 (lost) and Clemson in 2008 (finally won).

If you wanted an honest answer to this question, you should have started around 1990 and gone through 2022. I know that's too much work for a troll thread, but would actually show you the answer to your question before you begin.
Let me sum it up for you:
90's: We played Oregon, Texas, and I believe Kansas State. We had a good program that was winning games.
00's: We hire Croom and win ~3 games per year. We schedule cupcakes, and Ole Miss to get to said ~3 games.
10's: We hire Mullen, establish ourselves again as a good program, make sure we have good footing, then we start scheduling good OOC games to play.

What does that say about your program then, that operates on a slightly smaller budget than ours?

Yes it does. Ask the question again in a couple of weeks. Unless you can't count to 4 for 2016 and 2017
