I think I found the problem with the A&M defense

There's no identity.
If you look through the majority of the defenses in the SEC, all of the top defenses have a coordinator who also coaches a specific position group.
With the exception of Georgia, whose DC is also the secondary coach, all of the top defenses in the SEC have a DC who is also the coach of the linebackers.
These defenses are focused on the linebackers and the other position groups are recruited and built in order to complement that group. Georgia's defense is built around the secondary.
A&M's defense has a defensive line coach, a linebackers coach, and a defensive backs coach as well as a defensive coordinator. THAT IS UNNECESSARY.
If they are going to establish the defensive line as the identity of the defense (since that seems to be the best group right now) then fire Snyder, promote Price to interim DC and build a 5-2 defense around that line.

If you think there is a quick fix for your defense you are in for some disappointment.

There isn't. Long-term the defense must have an identity which it really hasn't since Slocum, whose defensive coordinators also coached the linebackers. (he coached the linebackers while the DC)

I've never seen anything like it....Bama could have ran any play they wanted and scored. It was almost unreal.........was it real?

This. Kiffin could have literally closed his eyes, put his finger on a play, and there was a 50% chance yall were scoring.

Kevin Sumlin has never had anything resembling a defense, and he never will. I'm sorry

so is 'swag' only the identity of the coach, not the team?

I thinking coaching is your problem. But it's not just what you think.
Remember all that johnny off field issues and how most felt that no matter what he did, he was above discipline?
That's called a lack of control and discipline. You coaches were the issue. See Winston...
Your HC does not have his team under control.

Or picking and choosing which games to suspend his players (see LA Tech last season).
Sumlin may have swag, but he's been exposed on several occasions. Surprising he hasn't canned the DC yet after this debacle. It's 3 years of porous defense.

The next thing hell do is institute team voting

Exactly

Sumlin may have swag,
It's hard to regain discipline once you give it up. All players are going to be looking at the fact that JM did what he wanted to do and got away with it.
That moves into workouts, pushing to be better and just giving up.
I watch the KH laughing on the sidelines after throwing a pick. I have seen him do that many ties and is always joking around.
That's an issue.
Just my opinion, but let him go, and get somebody else in before your talent pool drops.

The problem is that programs with these wide open offenses usually have horrible defenses. I can offer no explanation for that unless the coaches only recruit one side of the ball. Texas Tech, Baylor, Texas AM are prime examples of this.

Of all the discipline issues I see with A&M and the way Sumlin handles them, this has got to be the absolute bottom of the barrel of things that concern me.
The fact that people can get arrested MULTIPLE times and need to be facing 25 to life before they are removed from the team is a problem, not a delayed suspension due to a technicality.

That's because they don't release the identities of rape victims.

2012 resembled a good defense.
