Named Athlon Sports Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive week: LINK

Yep, Chubb is the epitome of the Freshman backup who stepped up to the plate when the need arose. And I have to say, as much as I like Gurley, Chubb is clearly the more durable back.

The thing tha gets me about Chubb is...he runs the ball fresh after 30+ carries. Does't look like he is tired or slowed a bit. Even Gurley looks a little tired after 20 or so carries. Chubb looks like he could carry the ball 45-50 times if we needed him to. (Not that I am advocating that)

Whoever is coaching the running back.. is doing a phenomenal job...

Why even say this? How much time has Gurley missed this year because of Injury. Enjoy Chubb, but don't shite on our superstar.

I actually agree with Davesdawgs. While I don't think Gurley is injury prone, Chubb runs just as hard on carry #38 as he does on carry #1. Gurley appears to get tired......just my impression.

I THINK he meant that Chubb is more durable from the sense that he does not seem to tire. He always seems fresh from start to finish.
Dave? You know what you meant....can you elaborate?

A few thoughts:
1- Chubb basically HAS to carry the full workload because he only has douglas behind him. Gurley this season has had chubb/sony/marshall behind him so it's not really a big deal to let him sit for a few.
2- Gurley is more explosive. Chubb will break off a medium/long run every so often, but most of his work is chipping away 4 or 5 at a time. When you have the amount of long/explosive plays gurley does so often, it's only natural to get winded more easily.

some props needs to go to the OL coach who also is the rungame coordinator..I can foresee RBs flocking to UGA again.

Exactly. I'm a huge fan of Chubb, love the young man getting all the credit he deserves, but until he shows he can last through a whole SEC season, calling him more durable than Gurley is a reach.

Both very good poits and I can't argue with you on those points. And, it is just an impression I have had of Gurley.
I have also seen some running backs get up off the ground like they can barely stand...stumble back to the huddle and then run the ball up the middle with authority. Sometimes it's just hard to tell when a running back is tired.

He definitely lost a little burst in the 4th qtr against Arkansas. There was a play where he got to the second level and he just didn't have that extra gear anymore. After that he came out and Douglas was in for next few snaps. It's just part of being a human, though; no one is going to run for 200+ yards and NOT be fatigued at some point in the game.
The biggest thing about the emergence of Chubb is that, if Gurley comes back, you have a real threat backing him up and spelling him without having to change your game plan too much. Then a healthy Gurley can still be fresh in the 4th qtr and really start to gash a worn out defense for big gains.

You'd think anyone who knows football at all would understand this.....certainly wouldn't think they would call Chubb "more durable" at this point.....
And OL does need a good bit of credit. However, what % of our run plays have the RB contact at or behind the line of scrimmage this year?
