I always wondered how good LSU could be with an actual offense that better utilized their skill players

Either way, probably yeah

And to help explain why, my post from right after the game:

quote:

Early 2nd quarter, Auburn has the ball at the LSU 9 facing 3rd and 8. Auburn huddles. Then, 3 receivers break from the huddle and sprint to the right, setting up a trips look. The rest of the huddle remains intact for a second. Then the rest of the huddle sprints to the line, with the TE lined up as the left tackle but as the end man on the line of scrimmage and therefore an eligible receiver. Marshall fakes a handoff, rolls right and hits the TE over the middle who is wide open because the LSU defenders didn't realize he was eligible. It was a thing of beauty.

When was the last time LSU showed a wrinkle like that? I'm not talking about a trick play or a gimmick. Just a wrinkle, a misdirection, a little something to deceive the defense. I remember we ran a TE tackle eligible play vs Ohio St in 2007. Don't think we've done it since.

Without a few wrinkles, your offense becomes so easy to defend. Look at how much pressure the Auburn scheme puts on people. I thought that one play really summed it up.

That's a very difficult question to answer at this point. Let's see Gus year 5 and 6 at Auburn, and let's see how Les rebuilds after losing all those underclassmen over the past few years to the draft.

It's ridiculous to blame Les. Y'all have lost +/- 20 underclassmen to the draft over the past two years. No one can repeatedly overcome that.

Maybe.

From watching Saturdays game, it's clear the problem isn't play calling or game planning, it's execution. Cam can't hand the ball off or throw an accurate ball. Chavis can't make the tackles for you.

So, with that said, no. Malzahn's offense relies on proper execution, and LSU isn't executing.

Coaches can help players execute by coaching then up and putting them in advantageous situations.

I'm in complete agreement. It's a perfect storm of sorts. The SEC West is a gauntlet, and the timing for having to rebuild is not good. Looking at the gameplan, I believe they were setup for success on offense, but Harris just couldn't execute. If you are relying on the run, fumbling snaps and turning the wrong way on 2nd and short is a nightmare. And, I believe, relying on the run was the only way to do things because of the deficiencies on defense.

Which is one thing LSU appears to be lacking. And it's not a new development.

Just look at what Gus' staff did with the guys that Chiz couldn't do.

All of your talent is freshman or sophomores. I'm frustrated by the same thing with A&M. But at the end of the day, your team is young and mistakes will happen.

It's not fair to compare an LSU team to a State team that returned 18 starters.
