I was quick to bash the secondary, and rightfully so because on some plays there was no one even in the fricking island of the receiver. It pisses me off to no end to see a WR just uncovered. I am ok with a very good throw from QB in tight coverage and the guy coming up with the ball...it happens and Dylan just isn't that bad of a QB...in fact, he is prob the best we will face all season passing. But for there not to even be a fricking defender near the pass catcher just really gets to me.

But, then I realized we are not talking about the pass rush...First off let me clarify that USCe has a fantastic O-Line (how they do better at recruiting and developing O Lineman than Us is beyond me) and thats all well and good, but where in the frick was Floyd and Jenkins?

They were a non-factor. Like I said before, USCe O line is good, but they didn't even sniff the inside of the Pocket. I just don't get how an elite pass rusher can't get to the QB once in a game, especially in the second half.

Also, when we did bring pressure it was like it was in slow motion and extremely unimaginative. USCe picked it up with ease.

Our front 7 really let me down this game because late into the game and in to the 4th quarter we were getting gashed by their backup RB for 8-10 yards a pop...that fricking measurement on 4th down shouldn't have fricking been 1 inch...it was a bad night for our front seven and I am here to lay at least 70% of our defensive woes on them.

Seemed like the secondary tried to jump some of the shorter routes too often and left the intermediate zones open as a result. There were some plays where guys were out of position as well. Thought our pass rush would do a lot better than they did and the fact that Thompson had a clean pocket 99% of the day is the reason we lost.

The defense will get better as the year goes on. I think we'll win our next 3 games at home comfortably and our defense will look good in the process but next big test is going to be Mizzou. If we leave Mauk a clean pocket all game, we can expect another loss.

I posted detailed thoughts in the recruiting thread, but basically UGA doesn't have good enough players in the secondary, and the ILBs struggle in coverage. If we can't get the pass rush going, we're going to have trouble getting stops.

It seemed like our pass rush died when Toby got the personal foul called on him.

Could be wrong though. Game is a bit of a blur.

Maty Mauk and Mizzou will probably be the best passing offense we'll see this year.

USC did a great job with that but even if they didn't pick it up, most of Thompson's throws were short completions that took no time. It was a good game plan that was well executed on their part.

The front 7 let me down in the run game. I wouldn't call Wilds a "backup" as he's a talented RB but it was painful watching us get taken for a solid gain every snap.

Agreed. I was very disappointed with our pass rush. The secondary was definitely not a strength saturday, but it would take the Legion Of Boom to cover any type of formiddable passing attack with no rush.

Pruitt can fix it I just hope he stays around long enough for us to reap the benefits.

I suspect he will. Turning a mediocre-good defense into a monster would be a big feather in his cap for any future head coaching or NFL gigs. Plus, he seems like the kind of guy who likes that sort of challenge.

honestly South Carolina probably has the best offensive line will see all year. I expect better pass rush moving forward.
