After watching Mason last night, does any program in the future put its trust in a Defensive Coordinator as its next Head Coach ? Muschamp saw the light about winning with Defense only, but it might be too late for him. Will A&Ms OC or Rhett Lashlee get a HC job before Kirby at this rate ?

I think it's easier to go from OC to HC than DC to HC, but what I'll say is that if Smart is the CIW, we'll pay any OC he wants more than anyone else is willing to. And if Smart is not the CIW, we'll open up the checkbook for the best coaches.

According to Bama fans, Kirby will be the next HC at UGA.

What makes you think Bama will ever need another coach? Saban isn't mortal.

Congrats on turning a Vandy loss into something related to Bama.

No, he is just another example of how the game is passing by the Defensive minded coaches. Muschamp was one of the hottest coaches around three years ago, now he is fighting for his job. Will Charlie Strong be successful at TX ? He might be the only chance to show that a ex-DC can run a program in the future.

Neither of those two will get jobs before Smart. They are even bigger clip board holders than he is and neither are thought to be hot coaches, Lashlee especially.

Yeah, football has never been cyclical. Once something works. It works. Forever.

Kirby has learned Saban's system inside out. Saban's biggest talent is his ability to recruit the elite players and uber focused on his process.

Can Kirby duplicate that success? Hard to say, but I would be interested in seeing what he can do. Does Kirby have the same recruiting ability? Yes Kirby successfully gets kids to sign with Bama, but how much does that have to do with Saban being the HC?

I would be curious to find out his reasoning in not venturing out on his own.

I could coach Alabama's defense and be successful.

If A&M continues to put up those numbers, he will get a job by next season. Lashlee has been will Gus since HS. If you can not hire Gus, they will go after Lashlee, maybe not this year. I expect RL to be the next HC at ARK.

key point in bold

offensive football is taking over the game. Defense is just something that can only do so much in today's game. If you recruit on an elite level, then you stand a fighting chance of playing great defense, but outside of that you can't scheme yourself into a great D anymore.

Kirby Smart isn't and will never be what Nick Saban is as a HC. Bama will always recruit well, but not at this continued level under anyone not named Saban.

People said the same shite about the NFL, and the Seahawks had a little something to say about it.

Also, let's not forget that the team with the higher ranked defense won the NC last year.

Offensive trends come and go defense will always win in the end.

i want Kirby to stay and be our HC. Maybe Kiffen will be awesome and hang around for the transition.
