Sorry if Germans.

Butch Jones - #1

It's answers.com, so their navigation can be annoying. Here's the list:

#1 - Butch Jones - Tennessee - $3.2 million
#2 - Kirk Ferentz - Iowa - $4 million
#3 - Tommy Tuberville - Cincinnati - $3.2 million
#4 - Will Muschamp - Florida - $3 million
#5 - Steve Sarkisian - USC - $4.25 million
#6 - Charlie Weis - Kansas - $2.5 million
#7 - Todd Graham - Arizona State - $2.5 million
#8 - Brian Kelly - Notre Dame - $4 million
#9 - Brady Hoke - Michigan - $4.3 million
#10 - Paul Rhoads - Iowa State - $1.8 million

Mildly surprised that Bert Bielema's $2.95 million per year didn't make the list.

This article came out a while ago. There's not even an author and it's on answers.com.

Yeah... you'd have to go there to see the justification they gave for all the different coaches. It's not just who got the most cash.

For Will Muschamp, this is their logic:

quote:

Muschamp was an excellent defensive coordinator at Texas, and was in line to replace Mack Brown. Instead, he replaced Urban Meyer at Florida. Things haven't gone so well for him and he's lucky to still be employed. If 2014 isn't a successful one in Gainesville, Muschamp better start packing his bags.

This. He wins way more often then he should given the program he has. That guy could make a real name for himself if he ever took over at a major program.

2 - Kirk Ferentz - Iowa - $4 million

Everyone says this.

The state of Iowa doesn't produce a lot of quality recruits. The states that border Iowa (sans Illinois in which every major university has their hand in Chicago) don't produce a lot of good recruits. Iowa is also not the easiest place to recruit to. And let us not forget that Iowa also has to battle Iowa State, a Big 12 university, for recruits.

Like most, if not all Big 10 schools, the University of Iowa has a ton of money. They can afford to pay Ferentz his $3.65 million in exchange for 7,8,9 win seasons. It wasn't that long ago he took the Hawkeyes to the Orange Bowl and won. I believe he has taken them to two Orange Bowls if I am not mistaken.
