Same here.. little known facts about the construction of the Empire State Building...
It took 7,000,000 man-hours to build it.
official records state that only five workers were killed: one worker was struck by a truck; a second fell down an elevator shaft; a third was hit by a hoist; a fourth was in a blast area; and a fifth fell off a scaffold
Those 2 facts and the picture above, astonish me that more weren't killed.

Not exactly correct. Bayer made up 27.4% of a conglomerate that owned a 42% stake in the company that manufactured Zyklon B.
BASF was another party to the merger and shares of the conglomerate were traded as BASF shares. Bayer didn't come back into existence as a separate company until the allies split the company back up in the early 50's.

Just further evidence that we suck at life now. Not to mention that I could have smoked the hell out of some cigarettes on that plane. As well as give my woman the back of my hand without anybody raising an eyebrow...the good ol' days.

Pan Am was more like an institution than an airline. They were the launch customer for the 707 and the 747. Women everywhere dreamed of being a stewardess for Pan American World Airways, but few lived up to the criteria. Definitely the golden age of air travel.
Even though the flying experience is nothing like it was, air travel is much much safer today then it was back then. Like some of the other airlines of the time, Pan Am had more than its share of takeoffs without landings.
