Will the day ever come?

I hope not. What a waste of resources. Just something else for the football programs to have to fund.

I hope that day does come, but I doubt it. Just like I hope the SEC eventually has hockey, rugby, lacrosse, and boxing for men.

All I know is SC is only 1 of 2 programs to have a former player playing for the US World Cup team.

Amateur boxing is boring as shite (see the Olympics). I'd prefer Foxy Boxing if we're just throwing shite out there.

Not with Title 9.

Not unless football is exempted from Title IX.

If we keep letting the PTB neuter football then I can definitely see Soccer taking on a more prominent role in American sports. Also, with concussion fears becoming more rampant, parents are going to steer their kids to soccer instead of Pee Wee league when growing up.

its more about the number of scholarships available

Explain why Title IX is preventing Men's Soccer?
Everyone loves to just yell "Title IX' this, "Title IX" that....without actually explaining

Kentucky and South Carolina both have mens soccer teams. There's no reason that other schools can't, even with Title 9.

You have to provide an equal # of scholarships to women's sports as you do men's. Football takes 85. You can either cut men's sports or start new women's sports (soccer, lacrosse, crew, equestrian). Most programs cant afford to do that AND add a non-revenue men's sport.
Cut their men's cross country programs. Thought Miss State did too but maybe I'm wrong.

Explain why Title XI is preventing Men's Soccer?
Title NINE (IX, not XI) requires an equal number of women's scholarships to the number of men's scholarships, INCLUDING FOOTBALL.
As a result, you see a lot of men's programs that have to be dropped if the schools want to keep their football program. Many states have limits as to how many scholarships their public schools are allowed to give for athletic scholarships.
Those vary from state to state.
That's why you typically don't see the following sports in states like Texas:
Men's Hockey
Field Hockey (men's or women's)
Wrestling
Lacrosse
Rowing/Crew
Men's Soccer

Title XI dictates that there must be equal opportunity for women athletes in collegiate sports. The courts have translated this to mean that colleges must offer the same number of scholarships to both men and women. Since women don't play football and football requires an inordinate number of scholarship players, it means that a school must have far more women's sports than men's to stay compliant. The problem with this ruling is the lack of taking football into account (the fact that there is no female equivalent with regards to the number of scholarships) and the simple fact that more men than women actually want to participate in sports at the collegiate level. Also, to make matters worse, women's scholarships must be full scholarships, no partials (see men's baseball).
Therefore, in order to add any more men's sports, a college must add enough women's sports so that the same number of scholarships are still being given out to men and women.
