Okay great, thanks for the explanation. I always thought it had to do with # of sports and not actual actual scholarships #'s.

When looking at LSU Sports
LSU Sports

Men's-
Baseball
Football
Basketball
Outdoor Track
Indoor Track
Tennis
Diving and Swimming
Cross Country

That's 8....

Women's-

Soccer
Basketball
Softball
Outdoor Track
Indoor Track
Tennis
Diving and Swimming
Cross Country
Sand Volleyball
Volleyball
Gymnastics

That's 11...

__________

The only sports I feel that would be more popular than soccer is obviously football, basketball, and baseball...but I think Men's soccer could be between #6-7 right away, and evenutally move up to #4.

The bigger question you have to ask is at what point will Men's Soccer start to become a potential revenue sport.

15 or 20 years down the road there's going to be more and more interest in Soccer and quite possibly less and less in football.

It has a little to do with safety but far more to do with the fact that Soccer is tons more affordable than organized Football at all levels.

Let's list the sports that each SEC program has:

Men's programs

Baseball - All 14

Basketball - All 14

Cross Country - All but South Carolina

Football - All 14

Golf - All 14

Rifle - Kentucky only

Soccer - Only Kentucky and South Carolina

Swimming and Diving - All but Arkansas, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Vanderbilt

Tennis - All but Missouri

Track and Field - All but Vanderbilt

Wrestling - Missouri only

Women's programs

Baskeball - All 14

Cross Country - All 14

Equestrian - Auburn, Georgia, South Carolina, A&M

Golf - All 14

Gymnastics - All but MSU, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee, A&M, and Vanderbilt

Lacrosse - Florida and Vanderbilt

Rifle - Kentucky (Kentucky is co-ed) and Ole Miss

Rowing - Alabama and Tennessee

Soccer - All 14

Softball - All but Vanderbilt

Swimming and Diving - All but the Mississippi Schools

Tennis - All 14

Track and Field - All 14

Volleyball - All but Vanderbilt

Since Rifle is technically a men's sport, but the teams all compete against each other, these count as women's scholarships/opportunities

Most SEC schools have a Men's Club that compete against other SEC schools (Auburn played tOSU in 2012 at Nationals). There are tryouts and coaches and they get team uniforms, etc. Totally NON-Scholarship, open tryouts.

There are only 10 titles in the U.S. Code. Title ELEVEN (XI) doesn't exist

Cut their men's T&F & cross country programs. So did Miss State.

We still have a Men's T&F team. And our Men's Soccer team was started in 1978, while the women's team wasn't started until 1995.

SEC Men's Soccer
Will the day ever come?

Yes. With the new TV revenue and all the interest growing in the United States ... yes, eventually. Probably sooner rather than later.

The increase in revenue will cover the additional Title IX costs for start-up programs. For teams like SCAR and UK we'll have a head start.

Men's and women's soccer at SCAR is about a break-even endeavor as you can get it at a major university. The facilities are in place and paid for. The recruiting network already established, and we put a lot of fans in the seats.

It'll be far tougher for programs having to start from scratch but it is inevitable because the demand is growing and the SEC is not going to sit still and rest on its laurels knowing full-well that it is a sport of the future in the US and it has revenue potential.

Most importantly, with the increase demand for TV inventory to feed the SECN, schools might actually be able to generate enough revenue (via TV) to make it a break-even sport sooner, rather than waiting around and allowing the league to fall too far behind the ACC and some of the other conferences.

If I was threatened with death and forced to choose between soccer and NASCAR I would pick soccer every time.

They have been saying soccer is going to be the next big thing for 40 years now. This same flair up happens every 4 years

FWIW, I played soccer for 15 years

I hope that day does come, but I doubt it. Just like I hope the SEC eventually has hockey, rugby, lacrosse, and boxing for men

I am proud to second all of this.
