I think selfies are the end of civilization/civility

Recently, a former co-worker of mine passed away. He was a former head basketball coach for a good sized district in TX with a lot of success, an AP Physics teacher, and most recently an Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum. Outstanding, witty, no-nonsense, professional, intelligent man. One of the best i ever worked with.
On facebook i was invited to his memorial page. On it i saw nothing but "selfies for Ed" with a bunch of people taking close up pictures of themselves smiling. It that really a good memorial for a man? A picture of yourself smiling?
1000 posts on this page and i stopped about 20 down because 12 of them were selfies. it just seems incredibly disrespectful for something of that nature and narcissistic in general.
Am i alone in this line of thinking?

Still not seeing the harm.
Hell, I think that'd be a better memorial for myself than somber pics or anything.
But I'm a bit more jovial, I'll admit.

No, you're not alone. That sounds like the dumbest, most narcissistic idea ever for a memorial.
It needs to be something like "share an Ed story" or "post about how Ed affected your life," not "take a picture of yourself."

If the pics were overtly macabre, maybe.
But hey I mean no disrespect to the deceased btw. Sorry if it came off that way.

I love how people act like selfies are some new thing. They've been around forever.
