I don't know if this has been discussed, but I'm bored and ready for some football so...
If Mason comes in this season and throws lights out 3,000 plus yards, wins an CCG, AND the NC will he be considered better than Murray? Or will he just get the game manager label?
Discuss..

He will become my favorite QB in the history of our program if he wins a natty

I have little doubt he'll throw for a bunch of yards. I strongly doubt that he'll be better than Murray even with winning all of that. He doesn't seem to have very good redzone presence, and he'll have more developed talent than murray ever had.

I don't think so. Murray may be one of the better QBs because of his work ethic and leadership abilities not to mention UGA and SEC records. Mason simply doesn't have the time to make that kind of impact

It's not going to happen but if it does, it would just mean that the stars were aligned for Mason and not Murray. I admire Mason for sticking with the team to get his shot but Murray is my favorite UGA QB to date. And it would take a Murray-like Georgia QB with more success than Aaron to displace Murray as my favorite.

Seems to me that the comparison of being better or worse than AM is based upon Mason winning championships. It would take more than winning it all to make me think Mason is better than Murray. It would be in the "how". Football is a team game and rarely does one player make such an impact that he is the primary reason for winning everything. And when that happens, he's usually wearing a suit in NY.
Bottom line is that the stars never aligned for AM. He didn't have all the offensive weapons he needed early on when the defense was playing better. When he had the offense, the defense wasn't there. When the offense was there to make up for the defense, the offense was then obliterated with injuries. We also have had pretty bad Special Teams blunders that helped us lose games for him.
AM isn't the best QB in the history of college football, but he turned out to be one of the best (if not the best, IMO) in UGA history. It's just a shame that he didn't get the hardware to accompany his work ethic, his toughness, and his ability.
I highly doubt that if we do win it all, it will be because of Mason alone (or even primarily). He just needs to limit the number of mistakes made and get the ball to the play makers. And we also need our defense and special teams to step it up this year. For me, at least, Mason has a long way to go and has a lot to accomplish this season to even be near AM in regards to QB greatness.

In that situation, I think any comparison would be totally unfair to both of them.
I will say that if all that stuff happens, Gurley probably wins the Heisman Trophy, so Mason would be thought of more along the lines of Buck Belue, which isn't fair either.

i mean yeah he won the title but based on their college careers who do you think was the better qb

It will be no different than how UT fans view Tee Martin/Peyton.
They are eternally grateful what Tee did for them and brought to knoxville, but there probably isn't a UT fan around that would say Tee is their favorite player over Peyton.
ETA: didn't read the thread, saw that was already mentioned.

It would take Mason winning the Heisman. That's not going to happen, because Todd Gurley.

Jim Bob Cooter was better than both of them. Though Casey "one arm behind my back" Clausen has a special place in my heart

This ^^^I agree with this whole heartedly. Murray will always be remembered for his leadership and great character during his time at UGA. He set a great example (minus the murse)for his team members and left a pretty good blueprint on how to be a BullDawg Great. That said...

This^^not so much. I believe alot can and has been done in one season to make an impact before with other teams as well as this one. Look at Herschel's first year at Georgia, Nick Marshall and Cam Newton at Auburn, and Jameis Winston at FSU. These guys made an impact their first season with their perspective teams. Impact isn't just records. Impact is a change from the norm. Will Mason be able to break records? I'm just not sure of that. Most of them require seasons to accumulate, but that's not all that makes Murray great or an impact.
I would contend that it was his consistancy, his determination, his hard work and leadership from day one on campus. It will be this way for Mason too if he adopts those qualities. Also you always see great leaders on the sidelines coaching up their team. Getting after them when they are screwing up and congratulating them when they have success.
I've seen Mason do this already. He was not in the spotlight though.

This. I would worship White Tee Martin 2.0 till the day I die. I'd also fight, valiantly I might add, to have the #14 retired and a statue made in his honor.
And that post is like 1.3% facetious and 98.7% serious. He wins a national title then he is a god.
