I'm a pack a day guy and I want to stop. Any success stories? What worked best for y'all?

Quitting is easy. I've quit thousands of times.

I am a former nicotine addict. Here's the most important thing I ever learned.

The addiction loop is about dopamine. View your withdrawal symptoms as an imbalance of dopamine, and find out ways to increase that neurochemical.

One thing that increases dopmaine is binge eating. And that's why a lot of people gain a lot of weight when they quit smoking.

I'd recommend doing Chantix. And when you are tapering off of that, do a month or so of low dose welbutrin. It makes the adjustment a lot easier.

Start keeping the receipt from when you buy a pack and every day when you get how write on a very noticeable part of you house on a white board how much it cost. And then every day keep adding the new receipt's cost to your ever increasing number on your white board. You will be appalled by how much you are spending for no one to like you.

In all seriousness, good luck. I've actually tried to quit many times and I still unfortunately smoke.

You have to really want to, I know. I find myself giving myself little loopholes. "I'll buy an emergency pack just in case I REALLY need one".

I quit dip about 40 days ago. I dipped for 14 straight years (since I entered teen hood).

Not the same as smoking I know, but I used sunflower seeds, chewing gum, and jerky chew to fight cravings. Oh, and chantix, I used that too. But it didn't seem to do much except hurt my stomach.

After the very mild side effects for a few days, it's all mental.

Edit: know your triggers and set goals (short, medium, long) for yourself. As someone else mentioned, use the money you would've used for cigs for something worthwhile.

It's not easy, but it's worth it.

I smoked my last cig a week ago today. It's been really tough man but the thing I can tell you is literally, just say no. Just tell yourself every time you get the urge, I'm not going to fricking smoke a cigarette. It's what I've done, along with a high dollar vaporizer and it has worked so far.

Im still having hard hard urges to smoke but I just pick up my vaporizer and tell myself, no matter how bad I want one that I'm not going to fricking smoke and I don't and the urge will go away. I'd say that my 3rd 4th and 5th day were the worst. I was getting hot flashes and sweating and everything. It was pretty nuts but I just set down took a few deep breaths and told myself, no matter how bad this is I'm not going to do it.

It's just a straight up test of will and if you can say no then you can do it man. The vaporizer has helped tremendously as well. I would suggest getting one.

I chewed numerous packs of sunflower seeds.

I really only smoke when I drink, but when I'm drinking it seems virtually impossible to resist the urge.

If there's anyone who has quit smoking and still drinks a lot share your secret because that's a million dollar secret.

At one pack a day, you're losing three months of life expectancy for every year you smoke.

That should be all you need to quit.

$143.40 a month
$1720.80 a year

No chart needed.

I feel your pain dude. But I drink a lot and over the past week I've gotten pretty hammered a couple nights and didn't smoke.

I'll tell you another thing that helps a lot is being around other people that are trying to quit. The guys I normally go and drink with haven't smoked in two months and they use the same vaporizer and it helps having their accountability around. I go home and my roommate doesn't smoke. The hardest time is at work because I work at a car lot and literally EVERYONE smokes, but there is a guy there doing the same thing, using a vaporizer.

It helps to not be around it all the time as well.....

Here's my plan

I have two roommates and they both smoke heavily, so when I'm around them and am drinking I can't help myself.

I'm about to graduate and am engaged and she hates smoking, so as long as I'm with her and not around them I think l'll be fine.

The thing is I'm addicted to nicotine, I have been since I was a freshman in high school, but as a dipper. I still dip, but on the weekends when I'm around smokers I really prefer cigarettes (yes a know, smoking and dipping both I'm stupid and fricked, spare me your judgement).

I'll probably keep dipping for the foreseeable future, but damn if I want to quit smoking cigs period. They noticeably make me feel so much shittier in the morning.

As much as I hate the lame anti tobacco ads, I can agree with this. There are obviously a lot of additives in today's tobacco.

Hell, I might get mouth cancer two weeks from now, but at least I know I'm taking strides to look out for my health. Plus, I've already noticed my teeth are much whiter. In fact, I'm pretty sure a girl licked my ballon knot the other night and I'm 76% sure it was due to whiter teeth. So there's another reason: having a girl lick the penny.

And for anyone that can stand dip, they make tobacco free snuff that is surprisingly similar to the real thing. It helped me for the first few weeks, especially when I'd been boozing. Smokey mountian snuff is what I used.

I know the vaporizer is so 'beta' or whatever you want to call it. I know when I was smoking and saw people doing it at bars I thought they looked pussy as frick, but frick it, it's helped me so much quitting that I don't know if I would have been able to quit for so long without it.

One of my roomies has one of those and its a legit one. I'll try fooling around with it at the bar and it's ok, but ultimately when I'm drunk and people have the real thing I'm fricked because it's so much better.

In the end I'm screwed until I consistently get away from my current crowd

This. If you want an herbal version use loebelia and st. johns wort. Same affect, less side effects, but not as strong.
exercise helps too. Acidic foods get rid of the taste and oral cravings. Limes, lemons, and grapefruits

If you need to taper down ecigs is the way to go.
