My Mom used Chantix to quit and it worked until we had a family member pass and she started back up. Said the only thing she didn't care for with it was it gave her weird dreams towards the end of the cycle.

Smoked for 17 yrs. Quit 9 yrs ago. First, you have to want to quit for you not someone else. Keep busy, will help keep your mind off it. Have something to replace it, especially when you usually smoked. Like gum to chew or something like that. Hard times for me were after meals or driving. After a couple days, it is all psychological. Keep reminding yourself you didnt go through withdrawels for nothing. Eventually the cravings will lessen. And cold turkey is the only way to do it.

I quit cold turkey in December. First 2 weeks are hell, but it gets easier.

It gets easier, except when I drink lol. Saving the money and not coughing every morning makes it worth it. I can now smell it more on people that smoke. My wife and my coworkers don't smoke, so that made it easier as well.

I honestly can't wait for the day when someone lights up beside me and the thought of having a cig never crosses my mind.. Hopefully one day it will happen

Here is my thing:

I have only done nicotine for a couple years. I havent done the shite for 15+ years or anything like that. However, I did get addicted to nicotine because of dip. Dip is 3x the amount of nicotine as cigs. And I threw in huge lips. Ill say I dipped the equivalent of 10-12 cigs per day because I dipped multiple times a day usually for a almost 2 years. I started to get to the point where I craved it, but. My worst case of it was probably going outside in the middle of the night in Chicago multiple times to smoke, even when it was so cold my whole body shook violently. But I had to do it.

All of a sudden, a couple months ago I decided Im fricking sick of all of it, and Im going to quit. There is an expression that "If you can go 3 days without it, you never need it again" False. for me, its 5-6 days. The key is to think of how disgusting it is, and count in your head exactly how many days you can go without your last cig. Again, the goal is about 5-6 days. Then, buy another pack. But smoke less per day than you wouldve. When its done, go 6-7 days. Buy a pack. Now youll start to understand how gross it is and you will actually dread smoking it. But smoke the pack over time. At this stage, I threw the damn pack in a trash can because it was appalling. Go 10 days without it and see where you are at. This works, trust me.

It will. Another thing, is that in enclosed areas, it's almost unbearable to breath now when someone is smoking, for me.

I did not however become one of those Nazi anti-smoker, exsmokers.

People won't quit til they're ready. Quitting for someone never works. When you're ready in your own mind, you'll quit. It's pretty much, that simple.

When I quit smoking I had to quit a few triggers that always led me to lighting up. Gave up beer, coffee, and golf for a couple of months, and quit cold turkey. The first week or so was the toughest, but after that it was easy. I still have one every now and then(maybe once a quarter), and still crave one all the time, but I don't miss my clothes stinking, my car stinking, horrible cotton mouth every morning, etc.

If you plan on either cutting back or swapping to vapor, hold off as long as possible on that first one of the day.

Don't have any advice. I've only smoked one cigarette in my life and never got the appeal.

But good luck, dude. I've seen too many people get lung cancer from those things so I'm always happy for someone when they try to quit.

quit dip for like a month, bout to quit forever after finals.

for me the bigegst problem was the oral fixation (no homo).

What helped was

1- picking a date to quit in advance, don't just decide today to quit, because it won't stick. pick a date a month in advance, that way you can prepare yourself for whats coming.

2- getting past that first week. for me I was away with my gf's family for a week and had no dip and that helped a lot.

3- sunflower seeds. it may be different with cigs, but having something in my mouth (no homo) was helpful

I quit smoking 4 years ago with no problem. I have tried to stop dipping 20 times and can't make it more than a day.

Madmen has become almost unwatchable for me the way they try to have every person in every setting with a cigarette. I mean really, a mom smoking on s field trip on a school bus full of 3 graders...

It gives NO appeal to the show and would not be missed if no one smoked again on the show.
