While I dont think that Clowney is atrocious I do agree I think Mack will be better year 1, but Clowney has more long term upside.

Thoughts?

Hoge doing Hoge things. He's an asshat.

Is Clowney perfect? No. Do you want to be the guy that misses out on a potentially great pass rushing DE because Merill Hoge pointed out a few flaws? No.

My thoughts: Hoge may not be the kid's biggest fan; but to characterize any player as 'Not a Very Good Football Player' after making it as far in the sport as Clowney has ... that seems disingenuous.

Merrill Hoge wasn't a very good running back.

....and even worse at evaluating the game. I can't remember the name of the show.......he used to be on with Susie Kolber and Jaws talking NFL........he consistently looked like an idiot.

Therein lies the rub. Nobody questions his 'potential', but can he, will he, give it on every play?

This. Not honestly sure if that look of stupidity is something he tries for and thinks is stylish or what.

Clowney's issues are no different than that of Julius Peppers when he came out. Clowney was just placed on a huge stage his senior yr of high school, and it got out of control last offseason. Now hes expected to be Lawrence taylor and Rudy merged into one perfect football player.

Hoge is an idiot trying to grab some attention.

And this is old news. Clowney has been fat and lazy since August 29st, 2013

Folks expected the same last year--if not more--from the previous year's freshman Heisman winner.
People suck.

I don't see the comparison to J. Peppers. No one questioned Peppers' work ethic in college. Heck, as soon as football season was over, he would play big time basketball for the Heels, even going to a Final Four. That's not lazy.

Apparently opposing lineman were often confused when playing against Clowney because he would literally be asleep while they were blocking him.

People definitely question Peppers work ethic. It wasn't as overblown as the Clowney witch hunt, but the questions were there, whether they were warranted or not.
