Would you have a relationship with a fan of a rival team?

During the season, I made a disparaging (but not all that insulting) remark on Facebook about fans of a rival team and my mother commented that I should be careful what I write because I may meet the love of my life and he may have gone to said other school. My first thought was that is ridiculous, I would never look twice at someone from that fanbase, but I see a lot of "house divided" relationships. (Well, really, my first thought was that I'm in my 30's, do I really need my mother's dating advice?) What do you think? Would you (or have you?) marry or cohabitate with the enemy? Is that better or worse than ending up with someone who has zero interest in football?

i have several tU/TAMU BU/UT BU/TAMU OU/tU married friends.
the BU/TAMU seem to be the most strained of any of them when it comes to the sportsing.

I couldn't bear it if Mrs. T were a sip. Hell, we had words over her mentioning in passing that she liked a rival SEC West school's COLORS
My parents went to different schools, but A&M and Michigan rarely play each other, so it wasn't an issue.

Sure. Much better than being in a relationship with someone who doesn't care about football, imo.

Yes. I don't take sports that seriously.

I'd rather date someone who knows nothing about sports. There are very few women who know the first shite about football, but a lot who pretend they do, and are annoying.

I am engaged to a UGA alum.
It is def better than being with someone with no interest in football(the ex who went to AU)

My last three girl friends have all been state fans.
The second one actually ended bc she's a state fan. Imagine having elitedawgs over to your house every night or texting you all day. Literally hate that bitch now bc of it.

Last season, I dated someone who enjoys watching college sports in general, and of course he's much better informed about the SEC in general and UGA specifically than he was before we dated. He'd watch the games with me, was properly enthusiastic or consolatory when required, but I really think it was mostly because if he didn't show any interest we would have gone four months without spending time together on Saturdays. I still kept running text conversations with UGA friends during the game in order to discuss the details.
I don't know if it would be worse with someone who had no knowledge or interest at all, or someone who was a passionate fan for a team I hate.

I don't think I have ever dated anyone that was really into sports. It's not really something I care about or look for at all when dating. Sports are such a minor thing, it would be like not dating someone because they did not like a tv show I liked.

She was actually a virgin and didn't want to have sex until marriage but honestly that wasn't nearly the issue as her fanhood
eta: I should add that we dated during the middle-end of 7-0 so you can put into context how obnoxious she was.

I'm sure that wasn't a dig at me, personally
I'm well aware of the fact that, while I am better informed that most people (men or women) especially in this area, I'm by no means an expert. I'm capable of having good discussions in bars, but on tRant I generally just read and learn. The whole point of joining here in the first place was so I can continue to add to in-depth knowledge of the game so that I can help my kids learn. I didn't want them to be the only kids on the team who didn't know anything about football just because their dad died. Anyway, I can typically hold my own.

Really? I usually feel less informed after reading most of the posts on the rant.

Well, the Georgia board, anyway. The main rant is more for entertainment purposes.

The rant's full of reactionary idiots, if you want them to learn about football they're better off just playing and watching. I learned all I really know about football from playing and then I read a lot from there.

Yeah, the team boards usually have better reading.
tRant is one giant thunderdome, tbh

I'd have a relationship with any woman regardless who she pulls for. It's a great way for me to show them how wrong they are.

I've been married to a MS State fan for 9 years now.
