With Texas A&M expanding their seating it made me wonder if UGA will create more seating in the near future.

I was kinda hoping for a giant UGA Blimp we could fly around at all the games this year myself.

Guy from the athletic department who spoke to us in class once was asked this and he said that UGA had looked into it but they no longer plan on it. They said that the trend is going against people coming to games and instead watching on TV. He went on to say that LSU, UA, A&M and etc were only making it harder on themselves and that it was his understanding that Bama was having trouble trying to keep BDS filled. I find that to be bs about UA but I agree with what else he said.

He intimated that UGA was no longer looking into expansion but instead working on improving the gameday experience such as the college football look ins, maybe WIFI, and other things that'd help make Sanford more appealing than watching at home

Theoretically? There's always room for the right price.

Realistically? I'd be shocked if they ever add on to Sanford again.

Interesting decision on their part. I guess I am old school and nothing beats the experience of being there in person.

I agree with ya, I'd rather be at the game. That said the trend is otherwise. So Georgia wants to continue to compete with that. Plus, any expansion would likely only be to continue the 600 level which in the end likely wouldn't add much in terms of ticket revenue. No chance they'll fill in the open end.

100% agree with athletic department guy. Expanding makes zero business sense. And if there is one thing we know about UGA football, is that we run it like a business. I bet our $/sq foot of athletic facilities beats everyone else by a mile. And we will continue to as long as we live our football lives one 40 yard practice field at a time.

The Reed Alley improvements are great. Also, I love the CFB look-ins. Would never want to close off the bridge. Along with the way it nestles perfectly mid-campus, the bridge is what is so distinctive about the stadium. I love being able to let my eyes drift over the visible campus in the late Autumn light during downtime in the game.

Honestly I think our stadium capacity is pretty close to optimal for our fanbase.

I love when I cross the bridge to and getting to look at the stadium. I imagine it is how one would feel if they saw a unicorn .

I am with all of ya. I used to want it expanded but I have grown to appreciate the aesthetic appeals of Sanford. It's just a unique experience and I love them focusing on making the experience better. The look-ins were a GREAT addition.

The only reason now I'd want to ever close the stadium off is to help keep the noise in but it's not worth it.

I've never understood the trend of watching the game at home being more appealing than actually going to the game. It's like watching a live concert at home. Yeah, you still get to watch it, but the atmosphere is what it's all about. That's what makes college football.

Bama uses lockers for season ticket holders. They can stock whatever they want in the "lockers" and that is how they get around the al-ki-hawl in BDS. I'm sure our scholarship donors and boosters get the same luxury, but it would be nice to do something like this for the fans.

Also, they could do something with the lights, since they hang over the stadium a bit. We could expand the lighting system farther over the stands and enclose it somehow. I'm not saying cover the damn thing, but do something like the Hawks. This could help increase noise and give a "Seattle" effect. Some kind of "classy" canopy that extends the lights around the top of the stadium's upper deck. We could still keep the bridge open and just enclose the horseshoe a little with it. This would be cheaper than expanding and would help with the fan acoustics. IDK?

We could bring engineers and architects in to improve the sound, much cheaper than expanding the stadium. The materials used to project hep project the sound better would be much more efficient than building new sections or expanding. It could make SS the loudest in the SEC without having to add capacity. This gives us much more recognition than being the largest. Louder is better than larger in football. That's my opinion, but I'm sure some will not agree.

Seattle's stadium has given them more recognition than anything this season (besides Sherman), so innovate off what the competition is doing and use our resources in a better way. With the web presence and television what it is today, people don't want to go to games that do not offer a unique experiance. If we could claim the loudest stadium in the SEC "title" it would put more butts in the seats. Dawg nation would have a stadium and atmosphere to be more proud of than the biggest one in the SEC. That doesn't matter anymore and Seattle's business plan has proven it.

How about finding every legal means necessary including bribes of public officials to make the stadium non campus zoned and city run. Then provide beer. Lots and lots and lots of beer at slightly above market price.

no rule against it. its a gentlemens agreement between all the schools. LSU has thought about selling, but for the time being, decided not to.

never heard of this, and I know several Bama season ticket holders. However, Bama, UGA, and Auburn, as well as, pretty much every other teams suite holders are allowed to have alcohol. its provided by the catering services.

I think most SEC schools are terrified of possible lawsuits with regards to alcohol. Personally, I am amazed no one has fallen off the upper decks yet at Sanford.

Also, I am always flummoxed that so many would rather drink alcohol in the horrible heat of the early season. Because you know nothing make the heat better than being overserved.

Sanford can be plenty loud in the lower bowl and field level even with the current configuration. I was sitting on the 15 yd line closest to the west end zone ( the open one) in 2004 against LSU and damn near went deaf temporarily. My ears rang for the rest of the week. The problem is that half the stadium doesn't feel like screaming and cheering as loud as they could most of the time.

Nope. I don't see it anywhere, even in the distant future. Sanford is a pretty good size, IMO. Would love to be in the 6 digit range but I don't when or if we will ever see it.

What they could do is wrap around the 600 section which would add the seats and keep the open end view of campus and the bridge.

This x1000

Sanford is full of yuppies who sit on their asses the majority of the time...that is the cause of the lack of noise...not engineering
