Anyone else hate refs or umpires that put a lot of effort into their calls?

Was watching the OM-USCe game and one of the refs called a charge. He took two or three steps and thrusted his arm out as hard as he could while doing it.

There are also a few umpires who scream "HUAHAEEEUAAHEEEAAAIIIIKE" when there is a strike.

To me, these people are tools and shouldn't be allowed to call games.

I think there's a big difference between refs that put some passion into their calls and refs that make it personal.

I'm ok with a little entertainment value with refs, especially in baseball.

But when you see refs start getting into arguments with players (baseball) and calling technicals (bball), they've now crossed the line. I'm not ok with refs making it personal.

It can get crazy but every time I think of Leslie Nelson in Naked Gun when he was a umpire I .

Shouldn't do this. Be professional.

The old guys used to be more demonstrative than they are now. I personally like it....guess it's just a matter of opinion.
PS- demonstrative umps and refs don't get challenged as much...probably why they do it.

Man, Joey crawford makes me nauseous with his ego. He once threw Tim Duncan out for laughing on the last game of the season with home court advantage on the line- way unprofessional. Some of the NBA referees think it is WWE and the game is smaller than themselves. They also will start to call against you if you piss them off which is why I hardly watch the NBA anymore. Check out this gem. Staring down the mop boy

Yeah Joey Crawford is a bitch. I remember the Duncan incident and mop boy as well. If you watch a lot of basketball you will see him do this type of shite all the time.

Of course that call is for Lebron's flopping arse. Ed is simply displaying what is going to happen to opposing teams when you play Leflop.

I dunno... sports is ultimately just entertainment and refs are a part of the show. I'd rather have a ref/ump enjoying himself than one who isn't -- a sour ref/ump will call anyone displaying passion of having fun a lot more often and if a player gets on the bad side of a stodgy ref they'll get called even when they do nothing wrong.

I actually like it. If I'm on the winning end of the call, it gets me slightly more "juiced."
