Grantham’s buyout stipulations were decreased. He can leave for an NFL coordinator’s job or college head coaches’ job with no penalty. Meanwhile, should he make a lateral move to another college job, he’d have to pay Georgia 15 percent of his base salary ($400,000) in year one, 10 percent in year two and 5 percent in year three. That’s down from previously.

“In Todd’s situation, it just gives us protection from a lateral move.” McGarity said.

This is key.

As far as I can tell, Grantham is actually taking a pay-cut at his new job when this is factored in.

Was this stipulation waived for some reason? was Grantham actually pushed out and encouraged to go find a new job.

I think so.

Interesting..........

I'd assume it was waived. The stipulation protects UGA as long as UGA wants to keep him. If they want him gone, I wouldn't be surprised if they let him out of it.

L'ville may have agreed to pay it for him. Don't be surprised if he does well there with Petrino.

I'm curious as to why someone's contract is public knowledge. It seems in almost every other job field what you make is no one's business.

Seriously, I was wondering. Anyone have an answer?

Grantham called athletics director Greg McGarity on Saturday to let him know that he would be talking with Louisville, as Grantham is required to do per his contract.

"Todd called me Saturday to let me know that Louisville wanted to talk to him," McGarity said, on Sunday evening. "I said thanks for calling. That was it."

He paying.

He risked not having a DC job with another losing season at UGA. He made a good decision taking sure money and long contract in the ACC.

It's a lower risk job. He has a few years of excuses before the heat cranks up.

I see exactly what happened, CMR told him he needed to field one of the top 3 defenses in the conference. Grantham knew he was incapable and tucked his tail and waddled his way up to Kentucky

Or..........

Maybe Richt is not the rube some of you think, and he understood that it was time to part ways. That giving up 30+ points per game is unacceptable.

But, rather than screw Grantham over and tarnish him with the stigma of having just gotten fired.......he and McGarity worked with Grantham behind the scenes to allow him to have the advantage of appearing to be leaving on his own terms.......

It worked.

Wake up.

Word on a pay site is Mcgarity told Grantham after the missouri game to start looking around, and that he would not be back for 2014.

That's what I think. CMR is a class act and would rather someone leave the program with their dignity still intact.
