Gus Malzahn
Auburn's Offensive Coordinator before becoming their Head coach.
Took over as head coach at an Auburn program with elite talent he helped recruit.
While he was Auburns OC, helped QB Cam Newton to win the Heisman.
In his first season as the Auburn Head Coach, he has led them to the Rose Bowl against Florida State in hopes of winning the BCS National Championship.
Scandal and NCAA investigation surrounded Malzahn's time as Offensive Coordinator at Auburn. see: Cam Newton

2013: 12-1
Larry Coker
Miami's Offensive Coordinator before becoming their Head coach.
Took over as head coach at a Miami program with elite talent he helped recruit.
While he was Miami's OC, helped QB Ken Dorsey become a two time Heisman finalist.
In his first season as the Miami head coach he led them to a win over Nebraska in the Rose Bowl, winning the 2001 BCS National Championship.
Scandal and NCAA investigation surrounded Miami during Coker's time at Miami. see: Nevin Shapiro
Head coaching record while at Miami
2001: 12-0
2002: 12-1
2003: 11-2
2004: 9-3
2005: 9-3
2006: 7-6
Coker started out hot at Miami with inherited players he helped recruit, but went downhill fast.
Malzahn has started out fast at Auburn with inherited players he helped recruit. However only time will tell if he's able to sustain it.

Post Miami's record before Coker. Then post Auburn's record before Gus. Arky so mad they let their golden boy get away

Larry Coker took over a Miami team that went 11-1 the previous year with quite possibly the most loaded roster of NFL talent in CFB history. Gus Malzahn took over a team that went 0-8 in the conference the previous year.

Larry went straight from the Miami OC position to the head coach position. fluid transition. no drop off in record until coker's 4th season. same offense.
Malzahn went from Auburn OC, to Arky State HC, to Auburn HC. not a fluid transition. drop off in record after malzahn left. had to transition to a new offense after malzahn left
