you havent yet except they were both coordinators at the place they became a HC.
Gus is hoping to become only the 3rd head coach in history to win a national title in his first year.
Out of the 2 coaches that won it before Malzahn, the chance to come across so many similarities between Coker and Malzahn has to be really, really small.
eta: if you can't see the similarities between coker and malzahn... lol @ you

Our team is probably going to be better next year by a large margin. Especially on defense. After that, the recruiting this staff has been able to do is filling all the needs we have needed filled. We're going to be just fine, in all likelihood.

It remains to be seen how well Gus sustains this momentum. He has a couple of hurdles in front of him that will ultimately prove what kind of coach he is.
1) Success builds complacency. Will he be able to keep that "edge" that the team has right now? Climbing up the mountain is a lot easier than staying there.
2) How much longer will that offense work until it gets "wishboned"? It is phenomenal right now, but sooner or later it's impact will be mitigated by someone who figures it out.
3) Christy Malzhan - how long can she stay in the shadows? Her performance in that church interview a few years back was priceless.

pretty sure i've already asked this of another arky poster but oh well.
Please be respectful and refrain from starting offseason threads during the season.
Just because your season ended two weeks ago (technically it ended when you played rutgers) doesn't mean everyone's did.
For everyone not retarded at football there is still a game to be played.

As much as you would like to be one of our main rivals, it won't happen. I like the effort though.
I do have one question though, didn't Coker take over a Miami team that just went 11-1 the year before?

done been said bruh
quote:
Larry went straight from the Miami OC position to the head coach position. fluid transition. no drop off in record until coker's 4th season. same offense.
Malzahn went from Auburn OC, to Arky State HC, to Auburn HC. not a fluid transition. drop off in record after malzahn left. had to transition to a new offense after malzahn left LINK

Larry was the OC at miami from 95-2000. With Butch 'ncaa scadal' Davis as the head coach
Miami with Coker as OC
1995: 8–3
1996: 9-3
1997: 5-7
1998: 9-3
1999: 9-4
2000: 11-1
Auburn with Malzahn as OC
2009: 8–5
2010: 14-0
2011: 8-5
Auburn without Malzahn as OC
2012: 3-9 (new offensive scheme that didn't fit the personnel) LINK
