He's been able to piggy back onto talented teams at every stop he's been at. Without the talent already in place, the 'Gus Bus' numbers would become very average at best.
Arkansas (OC/WR) - 2006 - inherited the best backfield in SEC history. Darren McFadden/Felix Jones/Peyton Hillis
Tulsa (Co-OC/AHC/QB) - 2007–2008 - inherited talent left over by Steve Kragthorpe, who left Tulsa for Louisville at the end of the 2006 season.
Auburn (OC/QB) - 2009–2011 - Not everyone can afford a Cam Newton
Arkansas State - 2012 - used Freeze recruits that were made for the Gus system
Auburn - 2013–present - currently using top recruiting classes left by Chizik that fit the Gus system.
Only time will tell if Malzahn is able to sustain his success without having to rely on inherited talent.

He is using his own players that he helped recruit.

yeah I'd like to know which is it. is he inheriting players from someone else or benefiting because they were his own players.
They need to get their talking points straight

Gus hates Arkansas.
I was thinking this Saturday's lineup was going to be boring, but now I am looking forward to the Gus Bowl.

AU 2012 3-9
AU 2013 7-1 with a likely 10 win (or better) season

You saw what happened to those players the year they were left alone under Chizik didn't you?
It is too early to crown Gus, but I'd hardly say he is overrated at this point. He is a solid coach that has proven that he can win. He already has more wins this season at AU than many were expecting total.

Gus > Bret That has to be a tough pill to swallow. I'm sorry.

Doesn't that answer you question? He's using his players now, with better defensive coaching.

Yes, he is overrated. Do you feel better now?

Gus Malzhan quit Auburn to allow Chizik to tank, turned down Vandy $$, then went back and got his program.. How is that overrated?
