Through 5 games of the season, South Carolina's sophomore running back Mike Davis has firmly established himself as the standard for which all other SEC RBs aspire to:

- Leads the SEC with 122.8 rushing yards per game.

- Leads the SEC for Running Backs with 181 receiving yards and 36.2 receiving ypg.

- Leads the SEC for ALL offensive positions with 159.0 total offensive yards from scrimmage per game.

- Is tied for the SEC lead with 6 rushing gains of 20 yds or more (6), is 2nd for gains of 30+ and 40+ yds, and is sole leader for gains of 50+, 60+, and 70+ yds. (no SEC RB has rushed for 80+ yds thus far). Davis leads the SEC for ALL offensive positions for offensive gains of 50+, 60+, and 70+ yds.

- Leads the nation with 79.4 rushing ypg in 2nd halves only, meaning Davis only gets stronger as games proceed.

Davis has recently been added to the prestigious Maxwell Award Watch List for top college football player in the country. Amazing thing is, he is only warming up....

sorry to hear that, hopefully he doesn't overexert himself and get injured.

"when will there be a shooting star?"

Great natural wonders of Davis' kind can not be foreseen.....they can only be watched for and admired from afar once they are realized. The best for Mike Davis is yet to come....

The great backs usually do it during the home stretch, when it really counts, when everyone finally realizes the need to shut him down personally ... like they tried with Marcus Lattimore for instance. And here is to hoping Davis is not injured in the process, because he is very special - as anyone who has seen him play will agree.

We'll see if Mike continues to comes-through beginning this weekend and for the rest of the season. Who knows.

It is "standard to which all other SEC RBs aspire."

He has been extremely impressive. I really like the way he runs.

There are some good players for SC getting overshadowed by the media's infatuation with the Clowney saga.

I'm surprised you omitted his biggest superlative so far this season.

How many rushing TDs? Hill has 9 Tds in 5 games.

I've been wanting to ask a good Bama fan for some time ... does Mike Davis remind y'all, at all, of Mark Ingram?

He does me, but I may be wrong.

Shifty, with solid power. He can run around you or through you. Smallish height wise, but built like a bowling ball. Good football speed. Has top-end break-away capabilities and has shown it on several occasions where players completely misread their angle of pursuit not comprehending how fast he really is with a football in his hands.

What I really like about him is his vision, his ability to find holes and hit them hard and fast. He reminds us of Lattimore in that regard - it's uncanny some times when it looks like there is nothing there and he turns it into a big gain.
