University Fall 2012 / Fall 2013 / #change/%change

UMMC 2,734 / 2,860 / 126 / +4.6%

MSU 20,365 / 20,161 / -204 / -1.0%

USM 16,468 / 15,325 / -1,143 / -6.9%

So, some thoughts.

We've already had the largest enrollment in the state for a while when including UMMC, but that stat generally upsets certain people. However, it looks like within about two years we should have the largest enrollment outright just on the Oxford campus.

We've been running shite the last couple of years.

Also, what the hell is going on in Hattiesburg?

He kept publishing a stat that showed state had the highest growth percentage in the SEC and how they'd be at 30k in 10 years or something like that. I of course said we'd be bigger than them in 10 years.

Why would that upset them? I'm sure State counts their vet school students. It shouldn't matter that the medical school isn't on the main campus.

If the trends continue next year would look like
Ole Miss 20086
UMMC 2992
MSU 19960
USM 14268

We would pass them next year but this years numbers alone may not be very predictive. We would next the pass few years growth rates along with the University plans for expansion to make better predictions. But off this years numbers alone it looks like we will pass MSU soon

Because a lot of State grads make up the UMMC number. Plus it's more about who goes to football games than anything else. That's why we are taking about it on a sports board. A lot easier to go to the game if you're living 5 minutes from the stadium opposed 2 1/2 hours

They claim that most of UMMC students are state grads. Even if true (I don't know) I really don't see why they believe that would matter.

I get the distance thing, but the other sounds like whining.

Also the freshman class was 3,579.

The largest freshman class for any university in Mississippi's history

I heard that 50% of the freshman class is from out of state. Can anyone verify? I find this very interesting, and potentially very good for Mississippi.

I know it's been hovering right around 50% the last few years.

The biggest number IMO from this past year is the retention rate, 85.5% from last year's class. That is a huge improvement.

I always thought the increase in out of staters stuff was really good overall but I've been 2nd guessing lately. A lot of them really don't give a shite about the University as a whole and the same applies to our athletic teams. Kids are coming here because of they think/hear that Ole Miss is something that it hasn't been but is now becoming as a result.

Every year, more and more Freshmen come here thinking Ole Miss is just a huge party and they think it's cool to walk around with overly fratastic clothes on and act like douchebags, all while wearing their allegiance to TX, GA, or wherever on their forehead. I just think that we are watering down what makes Ole Miss special, that being a true love and respect for the school they attend.

I may be wrong but I'd at least like to raise the out of state standards so we can limit the number of shiteheads that come hear as a backup plan...
