For SEC:
Bama 66, AU 04, AU 83, Bama 77- I grew up in alabama so these pop up for me. What are some others for SEC? Just to keep it simple, only consider 1936 forward(AP era)
Nominees
AU 04,83
Bama 66,45,77
LSU 11,06
UGA 82,02
Ark 64 (undefeated, polls before bowls, etc), I SAY THEY ARE CO-CHAMPS
UF 01,95,09,84
Mizzou 60
For all FBS:
Nebraska 83. They were a machine. 1 point loss in Orange Bowl to Miami.
Miami 02,00
FSU 97
USC 05, 03 (AP champ though)

Good subject. The best Georgia team to not win a title was our 1982 squad. Coming off a 3rd straight undefeated SEC schedule, we were 11-0 heading into the Sugar Bowl vs. Penn State. Lost 27-23 in what would be Herschel's last college game.
Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky game planned well to contain Herschel, as he finished with less than 4 yards per carry.
Obviously 2011 LSU was also a damn good team that didn't win the NC.

I don't remember much about 1993 Auburn since I was a kid... Was that a solid team or what?

Alabama won both the AP and UPI titles in 1964.

I loved that team.
But even as a lifelong fan and alumnus, I can't say it was better than 83,04, or even 88.
93 was an overachieving team. A good team that did great things

Had 4 first round picks. Russell, Landry, bowe, Davis
Also had 4 first rounders on defense the next year. Beat Notre in sugar bowl

By the end of the year we were pretty hot, but 07 is Richt's 3rd best team IMO.
2002 and 2012 were better.

LSU 06 was better than LSU 11

We won a national championship in '64, you need to check your history.

Yep. The 1993 team had great luck and timing in all honesty. It beat a GREAT Spurrier Gators team in a wild game where FL should have won big but made a lot of mistakes included a 98 yard pick six. Also, that team beat a supperior Bama team at Jordan Hare due to a fluke td pass when Nix replaced an injured Stan White and (I'll be honest), some questionable officiating on some holding calls against Bama that had a big impact.
That 1993 undefeated AU team could not go to a bowl where they would have faced a much better FSU team.
Bottom line, 1993 AU shouldn't be high on this list. They were MASSIVE over achievers. Probably the biggest over achievers in the last 30 years for AU.
