Smoking and or drinking while pregnant

I went to a dance recital last night for my youngest daughter. I had to go out and get something from the car at one point and when I walked outside there were people standing around visiting and smoking. As I walked back inside I noticed this one woman in particular. She was late 20's I'd guess and looked to be at least 6 months pregnant. She was far enough along that there was no doubt that she was with child. Anyways she was standing there with everyone else smoking away. My initial impression was that she was very selfish and irresponsible to be smoking while carrying a child inside her. What do you think about women who smoke or drink while pregnant? Is this a big no no in your opinion?

You asked what I thought of women who smoke and drink while pregnant. I answered the question. I happen to find pregnant women attractive and if they are drinking while pregnant it usually means they are down.

Stupid question. No logical person approves of drinking and smoking while pregnant. The women who do it, do it because they are addicted and/or selfish.

Think that it is a BIG scare tactic.
My mother smoked during all 4 of hers and we all come out ok.
My wife didn't smoke in her two and they both came out ok.
Can't tell a difference except my 2 think they are smarter than me, so maybe it was my mothers "selfish, irresponsible" behavior.

BTW, I know that both are bad for the child. When I see a woman doing this it makes me want to punch her in the face. That way when she says "Hey, what was that for?" I can tell her that her unborn child wanted me to do it.

The risks are very real. If a pregnant woman is smoking during pregnancy, she is either ignorant or selfish.
The evidence against drinking while pregnant is more complex, but generally shows that more than a modest intake of alcohol, and the frequency of usage, can have both have negative effects on an unborn child.
I really can't understand how a mother who already has a child can be selfish enough to partake of these activities.

Damn, told her what you and the other trash of the SEC thought and she is heartbroken.
She could not believe that on Mothers Day people that receive assistance would downgrade those that feed them.
Damn, hope she can make it another 5 years to help feed you trashy people. I would hate to lose an actual taxpayer that can help pay for some POS welfare message board poster.

I find it interesting that, with the exception of dawginar who is half retarded, everyone that has posted on this has said this is bad. I imagine if you asked 1000 people this very same question you would get the same response 99.9% of the time. Now, take those same 1000 people and ask them their thoughts on abortion and let's see what kind of numbers you get. The point is that this shows just how fricked up our society is. A woman can walk in to an abortion clinic and kill another human being and it be looked at as "her body, her choice" but when that same women smokes a cigarette and drinks a beer it turns in to "OMG, does she know what she is doing to her baby?"
