In 2005 Steve Spurrier got hired by the South Carolina Gamecocks. The same year Les Miles was hired by the LSU tigers. Since then.
Miles w/ LSU:
LSU Tigers (Southeastern Conference) (2005–present)
2005 LSU 11–2 7–1 1st (West) W Chick-fil-A 6 5
2006 LSU 11–2 6–2 2nd (West) W Sugar† 3 3
2007 LSU 12–2 6–2 1st (West) W BCS NCG† 1 1
2008 LSU 8–5 3–5 3rd (West) W Chick-fil-A
2009 LSU 9–4 5–3 2nd (West) L Capital One 17 17
2010 LSU 11–2 6–2 T–2nd (West) W Cotton 8 8
2011 LSU 13–1 8–0 1st (West) L BCS NCG† 2 2
2012 LSU 10–2 6–2 T–2nd (West)
LSU: 85–20 47–17
S. Carolina w/ Spurrier:
South Carolina Gamecocks (Southeastern Conference) (2005–present)
2005 South Carolina 7–5 5–3 T–2nd (East) L Independence
2006 South Carolina 8–5 3–5 5th (East) W Liberty
2007 South Carolina 6–6 3–5 T–4th (East)
2008 South Carolina 7–6 4–4 T–3rd (East) L Outback
2009 South Carolina 7–6 3–5 T–4th (East) L PapaJohns.com
2010 South Carolina 9–5 5–3 1st (East) L Chick-Fil-A 22 22
2011 South Carolina 11–2 6–2 2nd (East) W Capital One 8 9
2012 South Carolina 10–2 6–2 3rd (East)
South Carolina: 65–37 35–29
It seems like he could have won big with the talent available. What made South Carolina so attractive and did Lou Holts have something to do with his decision to replace him coach? And when did 2005 begin to feel like 1995?

Because if your greatest coach ever, the one who builds your program from relative mediocrity to national contender, leaves for the NFL for two years, then comes back to the college ranks at a school in the same division, Florida fans don't take it as personally and harbor so much hatred about it.
Unlike some fans I know.

Because it was a more attractive place to live?

Spurrier was announced as the SCAR coach in November of 2004, and Saban didn't bail on LSU until Christmas Day. The job was never open while Spurrier was looking to get back into college.

Yep, anyone can win with all that talent. That's why LSU has 35 CC's and 23 NC's in football.

If Spurrier had gone to Tennessee or possibly Georgia, Fla fans might feel differently. Just speculation.

Augusta National and Miller Lite. Next question?
Why is he a whiney douche?

Yeah but their state is the NFL per capita king. They just needed a reason to want to go to LSU. That athletic complex Saban had the gang build is a death star.

@genro
No argument here on Saban's impact on LSU during his time there.

Good question but it has an easy answer
Spurrier was hired in mid November of 2004. Saban did not announce he was leaving LSU for the Miami Dolphins until the week of Christmas 2004.
LSU might well have ended up with SOS if Saban had communicated his plans with LSU prior to leaving them just before the bowl game.

Damn I guess he screwed up. Could you imagine spurrier having the talent of miles for the past 7 years.

How does that apply to my comment? What am I missing about Bama rivals versus Fla rivals?

That's a lot closer to the truth then people think. Plus Spurrier still probably hasn't forgotten poor treatment in late 80's when Archer was hired.

Exact same thing with Bama/UF in the 90s and in 08 and 09. But we're not rivals.
UF and UGA/UT are rivals. Bama and LSU aren't rivals.

This is not the thread to rehash who is who's rival. All I know as an LSU fan that is 40 years old that I have considered Bama as LSU's top rival since I was 8 years old. It has never mattered to me whether it was a mutual feeling.
So in the context of talking about Fla fans being upset as compared to LSU fans, logic says we consider the perspective of Fla fans and not cloud the conversation with Bama or SCar fan perspective.

Who the hell knows what would have happened in the long run, but thinking about SOS with the 2006 LSU team is definitely fapworthy.
Jamarcus Russell, Dwayne Bowe, Buster Davis, and Early Doucet.
That would have been filthy. Who knows, maybe he'd have been able to make a player out of Xavier Carter too.
