There are a few Gator and Seminole fans here in Atlanta. I keep hearing from Seminole fans that Florida is scared of Florida State and would fight any attempt by them to join the SEC. Gator fans that I know sort of shrug it off and avoid the issue.

Does Florida oppose Florida State becoming a member of the SEC? If Florida State joining the SEC becomes a serious possibility could Florida block the move?

The belief is that Florida, Georgia, South Carlolina and possibly Kentucky and A&M would all vote against adding a team from an existing state (i.e. FSU, GT, Clemson, Louisville, Texas). They've agreed to vote as a block on this issue.

Why would they? They play each other every year, and the recruiting war is fierce regardless of conference affiliation. The thing that has/will block FSU from being offered an SEC invitation is lack of Additional revenue they'd bring to the table....and unfortunately, MONEY is what it's all about!

My UF friends would laugh at that. But I understand why UF would prefer to keep FSU in another—INFERIOR—conference. For one thing, it's a legit recruiting strategy: "Kid you're way too talented to play in that second-rate ACC. If you want exposure, come play in the big leagues—the SEC."

Two words: "recruiting advantage"

It's a whole lot easier when you are the ONLY team in your state to play in the SEC

They were sponsored in the past by UF to join the SEC (60's-80's). Other schools said 'no thanks'. Why is it now everyone wants them into the SEC? Ask your AD to schedule them. Nevermind, I know the answer to that question (scared).
In 1990, they said "no thanks, we'll join the ACC".
You should ask yourself why LSU won't play FSU anymore, then you'll find out why they won't even pursue an SEC invite.
Alabama and Auburn won't allow them in either (recrootin' and all).

Maybe so, but it looks to me like Jimbo and Muschamp are pretty even when it comes to recruiting...IMO, it's the money. Hell, FSU doesn't even fill their stadium up but a couple of times a year.

not a good answer. both schools are located in one of the best states to get recruits. Florida State has recently had #1 recruiting classes while being in the ACC.

Money is also a reason in another sense. If you're getting several more million dollars every year from your conference than your in-state rival is from its conference, obviously, it's a huge advantage in terms of facility upgrades and paying coaches.

UF is not scared of FSU. The recruiting war is as bad as it can possibly be right now. They are getting their share and that wouldn't change if they moved to the SEC. Kids still look at depth charts first.

I just don't want to help them financially. Their $$$ struggles are funny though it would be nice to get them off the dole so I don't care either way.

Bring 'em, leave 'em behind. Whatever.

IT would be nice to see them get their asses kicked more often in the SEC.

FSU had their chance to join and chose to be pussies instead

Because FSU would actually be the best fit, BUT as long as the NCAA and university presidents are calling the shots, that's the way it is!

They don't add the TV revenue like we want. It's not about fit any longer.

Florida's worst nightmare in FSU being in the SEC. They would do everything possible to prevent them from joining.

They wouldn't increase the TV market. There really is no point in bringing them into the conference. The SEC needs to be geographically larger. I could see a team from Oklahoma and North Carolina being considered.

The conference expansions are all about the lucrative TV contracts.

If they aren't bringing in the $$, then it doesn't seem like they're the best fit.

Not really. It would actually provide the taxpayers with some relief and they would get their asses kicked waaaaay more often in the SEC. They can't improve recruiting much more so that doesn't really matter. They could improve their circus which is kind of scary.

You clearly don't know what you are talking about. Florida would have the same battles in recruiting regardless. Alabama and GAg would be more affected in recruiting than Florida. Some kids don't like Florida (family tradition, whatever). If they want to go to the SEC, then they go to Bama or GAg. There are kids who want to stay in Florida and those we battle FSU regardless.
Who's recruiting got affected more when TAMU left the Big 12, Texas or Oklahoma?
